And because we don't get many of their tires everyone seems to say they are crap. I won't comment because I have never driven on them. But I will comment on the stupidity of other austrailans that say they suck, becaue they have never used them either. I hear a lot of good about them in the US, but I also hear they aren't so good with wear vs the kumho.

what wheels has it got? Avatar looks like 14" Pugs? Do you get the Toyo M65's over there? My bro just got some Goodyear TG's, I haven't seen them yet but they are suppose to be good. But again, not sure if you get them in the US. Other wise you can take the Kumho road, but they are pretty hardcore offroaders. Plans for LSD or welded rear? I'd love a LSD, but welded is just so much cheaper! Should be good to see what you come up with. Enjoy your ride!

CV = Constant Velocity. the basics is it is good at taking shape angles (thats why they use it on the steering wheels mostly) but is un able to extend or compact. DOJ = Double Offset Joint. These are better for the rear of subies IMO because they don't need to turn. This type of joint and extend by sliding in and out of the "cup" (part that goes on the hub or diff spline.) On EA82's they use CV joints on the outters at the rear. This means the saft and extend as long. They made this up with longer inner DOJ cups (what GD is talking about) Someone correct me if I'm wrong please. From what I hear, CV's tend to explode. DOJ's tend to tear aprat, the cup opens up and there for the race holding the ballbearings can rotate inside the cup. CV's seem like they can't open up like that because the casing is shorter which makes it stronger, so in stead of bending they explode. I don't know if thats what you wanted to know, but I said it anyhow. I've only been doing lite offroading for a couples of years now and have only damaged front CV's (from too much suspension lift giving them too much angle.) In my experience they only start to click. So I'm guessing I'm not doing enough hardcore offroading The way I see it is there is too many "myths" about subaru drivetrans brought on by factory stickers and other cars. The whole 'don't drive in 4WD on road' for example. I used 4WD for well over 1000km of hard driving on tight bumpy asphalt roads and I don't feel a difference in the gearbox. Nothing broke and it all seems good. I haven't heard of many real stories of people braking things on-road with a locked rear. But I have heard plenty of "well it could happen and probably will so it is not recommended." I suggest if you have the time and don't mind a slightly unreliable car, to do the tests, drive with a locked rear, break something.. And when you do, please come back to this board or email me the story, I am dying to know of first hand experience of these subie drivetrans breaking... What about that guy who had the EJ20t with gearbox in his Loyal in RWD with a LSD. He drifted it and all, has the videos to prove it too. I don't recall him saying anything about breaking drive shafts. Granted they were at better then stock angle. But still, 220+hp through a R160 and 2 stock subie axles?

Even a lot race cars use stock lights, so putting 'pretty' lights on your car has to be one of the most ricy things I can think you could do. But don't let me put you off. If thats the look you are after, I'm cool with that. I mean, even I have done plenty of stuff to my car that is under the definition of "rice". I just try to keep it tasteful to myself and most others. Clean, mean, and angry looking is my goal.

Oh thats right, sorry. I forget. I just thought that much more power in the same kinda car would be just as much fun if not more. And going on how much subies cost in the 80's when they were new compared to other cars I can't see how re-making an 80's car would be feasible, seems they would cost near the same amount as the new ones, and to get them road legal these days subaru would have to add all the safty stuff like air bags and all that. I guess I missed the point of "wish"... I take things to seriously a lot of the time, sorry.

+1 rice burner almost has another meaning now I reckon. It's more of the driver being a ricer then a car being ricy. Altezza lights on any car (even new out of the factory) seem to make me laugh. I think it's way more unique to use normal lights these days... And I think the "normal" ones look better too. But thats just me.

Could it be a 82-87 brat with "Stardard" headlights? In other words, does it look like the same styling as the 84 MY wagon or older?

Timming can change idle speed. Check your timming? Or is that computer controlled on SPFI EA82's?

I always thought it was 89 - 93 that had the phase 1 EJ22 (at least that is how it is here in Australia.) Wonder what the differences are with the later ones? Like are the parts interchangable or are the sensors different? Isn't the OBD all to do with the ECU?

they are 1.5" bigger then 185/75R14's So that's .75" bigger around the outside. Check it out, look for the closest point where the tires get near the body of the car and see if you can fit another .75". And remember about suspension travel.

I think it's a great idea. I live in Australia so I think I'll make my own up (plus all my exhaust threads are different then standard now.) But at that price I would buy them. I wonder who in the US agrees with me.
