  1. Oh Man, that sucks! yes we did just before we got it unstuck but the reason it got stuck turning around is because the rearend drop into the ditch. we shoveled all the snow out from under it and in front of the tires down to the road but the rear tires we're just past that in the ditch and the front didn't have any weight on it to help out. so my buddy started pushing down on the front to get it to bite and she popped right out. which is good i really didn't want break out the come along and straps. im sure its going to be alot harder to get up to the summit of lolo pass real soon since the last time i looked at the weather they we're calling for more snow but i don't remember how low its suppose to go down to.
  2. i think rd. 32 might go over to 2612. 2612 is the still creek road that goes up the canyon that still creek runs down. you can get on just before rhododendrun but its suppose to be block about a quarter mile in so we croosed over to it on a road that goes over to it just above where the camp creek campground is. i didn't notice but that may be road 32 i think there marked that way on hwy 26, its not shown on the FS map as that but i just looked and that road from hwy26 to 2612 is marked 2632 so thats probably right. but a couple of miles up 2612 from where 2632 meets it theres a gate and it is now locked.
  3. i think what you might be after is the actual axle shaft it self being longer on the ea82 not so much the doj. the doj might be different as far as the spline count for the trans stub axle. if anything i would compare the shafts themselves and i think this would go for the rear also. as far as new axles goes, we buy new axles from a warehouse here in portland called fast undercar. they don't sell remans anymore and the new ones are about the same price as remans, atleast at a shops cost anyway and i do know they have a warehouse in seattle. i'll see if we still have both ea81 and ea82 axle in stock at work and compare the shafts. i use to make sure we stocked them as i was going through them, atleast the front ea82's.
  4. well haven't been to sandlake yet but having the extra power for passes and just plain climbing is a must but i probably won't be able to do it until after the first of next year. but then i don't want to lay the car up during the winter. so how hard is it to do the wiring? thats the part i'm most concerned with just because i don't the car sitting to long atleast no more then a month or two.
  5. Went up exploring around Mt. Hood today. Original plan was to take Still Creek Rd. from Rhododendron, Oregon to Trillium Lake but found the gate closed, they just closed it on tuesday the 10. So we went to Barlow Pass Rd. went pass the snow park parking area about a mile in till we got stuck, got out of that and continued on Hwy 35 looking for places to explore. Bennet Pass was Closed off for the snow park. So went farther down towards Hood River found a few roads to explore a few miles down. Then desided to go back over Mt. Hood towards home and go up Lolo Pass to see how far we could make it, made it all the way up but desided not to go down the other side because it was getting late starting to get dark. I wish we would have went and checked out Lolo Pass after we found Still Creek Rd. closed and headed down the otherside from the summit out towards Hood River and then back up over Mt.Hood, that would have been a much more full filling day of Exploring to me. Had a full day of exploring around Mt. Hood, weather was ok mostly raining but no snow fall. Still Creek Rd. Gate Barlow Pass Rd. just before we got stuck turning around Playing on a mound just off of Hwy 35 Northeast Side of Mt. Hood, if it wasn't covered in clouds Summit of Lolo Pass Looking down from Lolo Pass towards Sandy River and Hwy 26 Looking up at where the summit of Lolo Pass is in the clouds an unimproved road we took just before heading home which eventually went to a deadend
  6. some of these places are remote enough that people don't normally go to in the winter and they gate them off so you don't go up there get stuck and die from exposure and these people are usually the type of people that have no business being out in the wilds especailly during the winter. they are usually in a vehicle that shouldn't be in 1-2 feet of snow or more and are not prepared or even knows what that means. but other places are for snowmobiles while others are for snowshoers and cross counrty skiers. so depending on the area, places are gated and closed off for various reasons during the winter while others don't even have gates and there just as remote. but i think that the areas that don't get use and are gated in the winter is just that thats one lest place they have to worry about someone going up into and getting in trouble. but this is just my opion and 1 1/2 cent worth.
  7. hey jason, this wouldn't happen to be goat? i heard from one my schwabbie wheelin buddies today that they closed off the top of goat because somebody tried to set one of the towers on fire.
  8. OH! yeah just get it in and running. so if you don't mind me asking about how much has it cost you to do this swap? i'm thinking real hard about doing it to my grey wagon, it could sure use the extra power. not that i need more power to break more stub axles, i'm just tired of going up mt. hood and other high climbs at 30-35 mph.
  9. tried today(sunday the 11/15) and the gate on 2612 going up still creek canyon from just above rhododendron was closed and of course the road across from snow bunny lodge going into trillium lake is closed. looks like they closed all the snow gates now.
  10. what your not going to snorkle it?
  11. LOL! cool i'll keep that in mind. thank you. now i would just need to get a saturday off.
  12. DANG!!!! Nice pics and videos. I really need to some how make a trip up there and go wheeling with you guys. It would be nice to wheel with a group of soobs that big. But i would need to borrow a truck and trailer, wouldn't want to drive it up there, break it and be stranded.
  13. I'm thinking of going up there this coming sunday. i'm going to try and go up Rd. 2612 which i think is Still Creek Road that runs behind Rhododendron up Still Creek Canyon. So, the way you go in that doesn't have any gates? Is that road 32, if so i don't see it on any of my maps, where does it start?
  14. i'm planning on making this trip but not getting a tree just want to hang with the washington subaru group. chaz
  15. Nice pics! looks like it was a nice day up there too. so what road did you guys go on? are the pics with the views from the still creek road (2612)?
  16. man that sucks! i know of someone else that has that problem too. both of my cars the axles are free and all the other subarus i've worked on the axles all just slipped out with no problems.
  17. i had mine welded about 6 years ago and i would never go back to an open diff. , the increase you gain in traction out ways pulling an axle. plus there are cases where an open diff wont get you where you want to go but a welded will and it helps when your following jeeps and toyotas. installing/removing 1 axle isnt that bad, its like TeanCF said about 5 minutes and i would use a mat or something to lay on for when its muddy out.
  18. hey Gregg is that a winch i see lurking behind the bumper? what size is it? i"ve been thinking about installing one on my 86 for awhile now but its just not a priority yet.
  19. yes a heart transplant!!!! Geez Gregg, i didn't know you was a heart surgeon. After going up to Squaw Mtn. last sunday to check on my Geocache i now feel the need to do an EJ swap.
  20. i have that complete route map (route 3) for that and been wanting to do that for years, i think i got around 3 years ago. But don't want to do it alone and i would have to plan it in advance to get some time off work to run it. i also have the route 4 map that goes from Sisters to Seneca.
  21. hey Jason, that area and more east of it is my favorite place to go in oregon. was over there around lost forest about 2 years ago haven't made it back. i had pictures up in my gallery before the website crashed a while ago. would love to do a trip in the sooby to explore again, we couldn't make it to the Alvord desert side though or on much of the steens do to brush fires through out that area then. but i have been over around the Steens mountain area though but not to explore off road, at least in a vehicle, went backpacking last year with my son. did alittle exploring but the car wasn't running to good, wanted to overheat during low speed driving. So what is this PNWBA and do they have lots of trips in that area? EDIT: well i remade an album for my 06 trip to the dunes and the lost forest area.
  22. thats cool, i've been trying to keep myself open so that i have more freedom to go when something does come up. hes been hinting around about it and ended up getting the lift and now he wants to do it so i comitted to it this sunday just to shut him up. hes a cool kid and all but very picky and he knows i won't hurry it and i'll do a good job, its just a pavement pounder so he'll never take it out i've tried with the last 2 vehicles i've lifted for him. anyway keep me posted on the next trip, i shouldn't have anything come up that i can't just drop till the next weekend. that i know of .
  23. wish i could but i promised a co-worker we would put his 4" lift on his Dodge truck on sunday. so i'm out for this weekend. but looking forward to the next time. i talked to Greg a couple of hours ago, he called to let me know about the plans. anyway have fun, guys.

    Trail news.

WOW! that really sucks! i know we shouldn't be complaining to much. there are alot of places that have less then we do even here in the states but alot of other places also have less or even none i'm sure. so, we should aleast be thankful that we do have a place fairly close by and it is a pretty good place at that. we may have to venture out between St. Helens and Vernonia, there use to be some guys on the forum talk, post pics and some videos of places in that area that we're pretty knarly wheelin places. i think they we're logging road or use to be logging roads. they use to have a club kinda thing going and they even had a name for themselves. anyway, that may be another place to go scout out for us locally.

    Trail news.

yeah same here. as long as the gate is open then there should not be any problems going up there on the main road. its been awhile since i have actually seen the gate to the top closed. atleast 2 years that i can think of. the rock quarry is a big no,no but then i have always known that for as long as i've been going up there but went back there anyway. i figured they won't know i'm back there unless they seen me go or see me coming out but thats still a big risk. some of the roads on Goat are primitive roads and i guess if they are a map they should be ok to go same with Squaw. i would think Lolo Pass would be the same.
