  1. Worn mains??, might try hooking up a test gauge in the sender port so you can take a reading, and synthetic does flow much better than regular oil so you made a great point about leakdown, perhaps you'll need a filter with a valve, or it is siphoning out of the bearings back into the sump.
  2. Haven't hears of it, but it sounds similar, SeaFoam comes in a metal can to, you're supposed to pour like 1/3rd of the can slowly down the carb. till the motor dies, then let it sit for awhile. I dump the rest in the gas tank. When you start your car it's gonna smoke like there's no tomarrow-don't worry, it'll stop after awhile. I'd try it, probably can't hurt.
  3. You can use the EA82 dizzy in an EA81 car, but you have to switch the drive gear, have the EA82 dist shaft drilled for a new hole (it in a different place), and do a little grinding and modifying to the housing, but it will work, a friend of mine just did this, and it is pretty cool, not a simple drop in though.
  4. Webers are awesome, congrats, you might have to fiddle with carb settings, and timing and such to get the most out of it, if it came off a soob, it should be jetted properly, or at least close, I don't know who makes Sea Foam, but I use it and it is availiable at Napa here locally, maybe you can order some, it costs like 8.00 US, but it's well worth it, it is by far the best cleaner I have ever used.
  5. Main bearings and such might be on the way out, sometimes they make a low tone sound like that, I second the oil filter idea, if you catch this early you can save yourself alot of trouble and $$$
  6. Wow, that's kinda wierd, don't know about that, but I did have a pesky miss I tracked down to "carbon tracks" in the distributor cap, and then faulty plug wires, which appeared fine until I opened the hood when it was dark, and saw the lightning show.
  7. Subaru used the 4x140mm bolt pattern for these cars, so you're basically limited to stock Subaru stuff, or Pugeot wheels which use the same bolt pattern, and can be found in 14s if you want to run some larger meats. You can redrill some different rims to fit, or modify your hubs/drums to a different bolt pattern, this can be somewhat costly though.
  8. I have had good luck with the filters from Wal-Wart, Supertech ST3682 fits EA82, and it fits EA81 just fine though, it doesn't specifically say so in the book at the store, I think they are made by Purolator-best part:price $2.07, Napa fiters are good too, and they told me they are made by Wix, I never liked Fram, but I have had to use them when nothing else was availiable, they don't seem to keep the oil clean for very long either.
  9. I think they suck too, in Yakima, the best one by far is Buck's, with great service, and cheap prices, one yard quoted me 375 dollars for a used tranny, which I had to pull!!, and wanted 75 dollars for an EA81 distributor that was propbably junk anyway, I have had better luck just buying entire cars for parts, keep what you want, sell/trade with friends, sell the shell to the wrecking yard to crush.
  10. The city I live in is pretty good sized and I see a few running around, It seems the sedans and wagons were much more popular here, as for that I don't really see a lot of Justys either, I think the little hatches are cool, but I need the space of the wagon! Enjoy it!
  11. Might want to try testing the element with a meter, to make sure it's not open they get brittle with age, if its bad just tie the choke open, till you can replace it, so you can drive around without fouling plugs, etc., I put a manual choke on my 83 cause I had the stuff, hope this helps, Oh and by the way sometimes the old fuses, the glass ones, open up in an end and they still look good but aren't...
  12. You should notice an improvement in upper rpm performance with a less restricted exhaust, might hurt torque a little down low, though. MPG may suffer a little, the faster exhaust can get out the faster fuel can get in, if that's all your doing shouldn't make much difference though.
  13. Hi, I'm sure this has probably been done to death but I am still a bit confused, I have an immaculate 84 wagon, but the auto trans went south, I want to convert the car to a 5-speed EA82 4x4 trans, and was wondering just how involved this would be. I do have another 4x4 GL wagon (83), with a 4 speed that would probably be a simpler swap, but I want to keep it going till I fix my 84, any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.
