Knocking Brakes... !?!??!
Alright, so my dad's friend has this 99' Outback Legacy, and i helped him replace his front brakes and rotors, the problem is that how when going about 15-25mph (haven't tested higher speeds), the brakes make a knocking noise, with a frequency just about the speed of the wheel (ie: 1 rotation, 1 knock). We poped the wheels off and made sure everything was seated properly, and that all the bolts were tight, retorqued the wheels, and it still does it... any ideas or suggestions? ALSO, his ABS kicks in WAY to soon, like... almost to a stop and it'll kick in a little.

AWD/4WD Impreza, it works! WHOAH! (4EAT = AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, not 5spd)
Ok, so i got my codes checked today (freaking fuel temp sensor...), i flipped the 4wd switch, and no new codes came up. I'm not sure if you run the 4wd, then turn it off and have them check if something will come up.. but with the switch on, and checking the CEL stuff, no codes poped up. SOOO, that means it should pass inspection if you don't hit the switch before you go to get it inspected

K&N air filter change out
Andyjo replied to Joe719's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHey grossgary, when you do it, let me know.... I've also heard that the K&N filters don't suck as much water through as a stock filter (if you keep it oiled)... I could use a water retardant filter due to the snorkle

Rear differential trouble?
Andyjo replied to laseron's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXbetween tranny fluid changes, drive alittle, and crank the wheel all the way to one side and to a few circles, it'll get that grimmy tranny fluid mixed up real good Also, to see if you have an LSD (Limited slip diff), jack up the rear end of the car, and turn one wheel, if the other one goes the same way you have a LSD, if not, you have an open diff. (I think... or did i say that backwards... someone correct me :-p )

Replacing Coil Springs Question
Andyjo replied to Leotrp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthe springs are in a system with the struts (enclosed by the strut and strut cap), you're going to have to remove the struts to get the springs out... i have no idea how you could do it otherwise....

I'm cheap: Mismatching Brake Pads?
As you can see in the title, i'm cheap, and have a bunch of old brake pads with about 85% of their pads left, i replaced the old set because ONE pad was wearing out faster than the others (sticky caliper slider thing). So i fixed that and put on the new pads, but now it's doing it on the other side... so i was just going to pop off the caliper, cleanup the sliders again and throw on an old pad.... I know you're not SUPPOSED to do this.. but i'm a cheap bastard.. am i going to warp my rotors, or mess up anything by doing this... i mean.. the pads are still good, they just need a little breaking in (get it.. ohh... i'm funny ), maybe a nice trip to the highway with the brakes engaged... hmm.....

Andyjo replied to 97OBW's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's a relitivly easy install, if you get the strut/spriung/cap all together it's 5 bolts... 3 little ones, and 2 REALLY BIG Ones. Once you install it you should get an allignment.

AWD/4WD Impreza, it works! WHOAH! (4EAT = AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, not 5spd)
with the wire cut you're in 4wd, with the wire connected you're in AWD so, if your switch is in the 'ON' position, you will be in AWD, in the 'OFF' position you will be in 4wd. You might want to solder the connections eventually, because you don't want something happening and have it jump into 4wd on the highway/whatever. You also might be creating more resistance than the TCU is used to, and piss it off somehow. Most Stuff, after using this mod for about a week (less maybe?) i've discovered that if you run in 4wd, and then turn it off, the NEXT time you start up the car the 'AT OIL TEMP' light will flash a few times, and turn off. And the time after that all will be back to normal. I haven't gone to check if any codes have poped up with this yet... i'll have to head over to leb. and goto an autozone and play with it while they check for codes.
