  1. I agree! My brother gave me a patio set and it all fit in the back of my Roo! full size table, TWO full size chairs and TWO benches! He was very surprised we didn't have to tie something to the roof rack
  2. http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/77175109.html does anybody know if a person can get one of these for our older Roo's??? How handy that would be to keep gallons of milk/water/juice/paint/etc from rolling around in the back.......
  3. I'm not sure about your car, but on mine when we first put in the different motor, we forgot to hook up the guage plug that is on the drivers side under the hood and the guages didn't work (easy fix, LOL). Maybe your plug has a bad ground or a wire about to come out of the plug? Just a guess, but worth a shot to rule that out.....
  4. When an auto tranny uses (burns) fluid, does that mean it's on it's way out?
  5. How much would a '86-'88 Subaru Wagon with a 5-speed push button 4WD and a turbo be worth? 200K miles, normal condition for it's age, no major problems or body damage.
  6. Now that you are sure it's the timing belt, then you need to replace both (they are supposed to be replaced every 60,000 miles). Here is the page that tells how to put them on so you get the timing right. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/article.php?a=24 Good luck.
  7. Back from about '90-'95 I had an '85 turbo sedan that looked just like that only silver and didn't say RX on it (and had a black rubber wing thingy on the trunk). Are all sedan's considered RX's??? If not, what makes it an RX vs. just a sedan? Mine was a turbo 5-speed 4x4 D/R with all the extras (P/S, A/C, cruise, power doors/sunroof, air suspension that we swapped for ''normal'' suspension). Man, I miss that car - I might have old pics I could scan in.
  8. I'm gonna defend the brother a bit here because ''I've been there''. When I very first got my car, it had a water leak, and I DID check the overflow often, so I thought it was just not leaking very fast because the overflow would barely change, if at all. I had changed out the radiator (obvious leak in it), hoses, and new gasket on the water pump, so I thought we had it ''fixed''. What I did not know was that the overflow was CLOGGED (presumably from block seal when previous owner tried to ''fix'' the radiator leak) and wasn't supplying the radiator when the coolant leaked out. I DID watch the temp guage and it showed nothing abnormal and I did have the fan on. The cooland level was too low to register hot on the temp guage though, so I cooked the engine. It got so hot that the t-belt covers were literally dripping black plastic and melted right on top of the t-belts. We didn't bother trying to fix it, we just plunked in a different motor from a wrecked wagon that cost us $50. Lesson learned the hard way - don't trust the overflow level or the temp guage! They might be fooling you!!! We all have lessons to learn, but it doesn't make us stupid. Even the smartest people make mistakes!
  9. DANG!!!! Why don't I find deals like that!?!!! I want a turbo RX! Sell it to me, I'd pay double or even triple what you paid
  10. I don't agree that it's pointless to use higher octane fuel.....When hubby and I first put my engine in my car (220K miles on it, pulled from a crashed roo), it was getting 22 MPG and the person had been using regular gasoline (lower octane). I have been running higher octane (super) in it since and have steadily increased the fuel mileage - my last tank I got 30 MPG. Pointless? I think not, LOL
  11. There is a multitude of reasons for a car to overheat. Bad/clogged radiator, bad water pump, bad thermostat, etc. Where is the water running out from?
  12. AH ha! I thought it looked like the threads were going the wrong way! Interesting! Didn't know they made them like that!
  13. Check for hot/cold spots in your radiator - that should tell you if you are getting good flow. I've taken radiators into radiator shops for flow and pressure testing, it's not too expensive (I had one that needed a tiny crack soldered and it was still only around $20). Make sure the electric fan is operational. Have you checked the thermostat?
  14. So, that plaid is FACTORY???? Woah. Weird. I've never seen a Soob with all vinyl seats, and wouldn't want to own one. I had a couple MustangII hatchbacks when I was a teen, and they had vinyl seats. HATED them - they got HOT in the summer and burned your legs if you wore shorts - plus, your legs stick to them if you wear shorts too. I'll stick to seat covers that I can wash personally
  15. wow, now that's a upholstery job of a different color! The 409 and shout did a great job!!! Is the plaid fabric an upholstery fabric? It almost looks like drapery type fabric? This is what my home-made seat cover looks like:
  16. so the pic in the ad was of an EA82 style dash? The one with the flat spot on the passenger side and the in-dash clock???? The dash covers they sell are the one's made of carpet though aren't they???
  17. 409 and shout worked huh? When I got my car, the seats were just gross dirty and mildew stained. I ended up using color-safe bleach and then used my ''little green clean machine'' with HOT water and a little simple green to finalize the clean. Worked pretty well - not all the stains are out. I ended up making seat covers for the sitting part of the front seats. I detest store-bought seat covers, they never fit right. I have a friend who does upholstery work from her house, but she's in SedroWoolley - quite a ways from Auburn.....
  18. Ah, good to hear so............What *IS* a ''Runabout''??????????
  19. hmm - interesting. Sounds like my car......it does the same thing. Runs fine, just shakes at idle. I have been assuming mine is because the #1 plug on mine isn't seated all teh way in because the threads are messed up. One of hubby's friends suggested that I put new t-belts on it because he thinks that one is off a tooth or something. I got the impression that if a t-belt was off a tooth, you'd KNOW it though. We've timed mine 3 times, so I know the timing is right. I'm still guessing mine is the #1 plug, but I do plan to do the t-belts soon anyhow just so I know it's got new ones because I have no clue how old these ones are..... I rather miss my EA81 where I didn't have to worry about that, LOL.
  20. I saw that car at the grocery store in woolley Monday or Tuesday! Thought to myself, ''that car could be cammo'd pretty easily'' LOL. But seriously - you could probably just get tan rattle-can made to match the rest of the car so it was at least one color...... Tan is a great ''hide-the-dirt-don't-have-to-wash-as-often'' color
  21. well, in doing the free search on carfax (that doesn't give details) it says that it has 4 records on that car. Does that mean it's had 4 different owners? And what the heck is a ''Runabout''??? I'm guessing a coupe????
  22. Nope, don't think I've ever seen that - but if you don't have anything in your car to steal, then it doesn't matter either way
  23. This is one HUGE reason I am not fond of getting a new car and/or expensive stereo. I don't trust it won't get stolen. I don't lock my car either - if they want to get into it, locking it isn't going to help and it will only get your windows broken, etc. My ''insurance'' is driving an old car with an old system that doesn't attract anybody's attention.
  24. Me too torxxx, me too.... I would even trade away my working wagon for a fixer-upper turbo wagon if I found one! I have YET to see one though! The only one I have seen was a automatic and got FLOODED (my neighbors). If I would have known he had that car when flood time was coming, I would have dragged it out of there for him!
