Mine did that for a year before overheating started. Try some barrs stop leak. After the over heating started it was down hill from there. Head gaskets were shot. When it was all said and done I had a new engine. If you are dealing with a good shop they should be able to do a pressure check on each cylinder to see if it is blowing back into the cooling system. If so get the head gaskets replaced by a good mechanic. Mike

I had a 90 auto leg that did this. Turned out to be a bad fuel injector. When the problem is happening disconnect one by one the fuel injector connections. If the problem gets worse go to the next one. If there is no change then I would say you have identified the bad injector. On my 99 5spd I noticed shudder when letting the clutch out from a stop. Checked the fuel injector connections and found a broken clip on the connector. Used a zip tie to secure and the problem is fixed. I dont get the connection to the discribed problem and axles?? Mike

Seems to me the computer spools up the engine quick at low speed. I have the same thing in a 99 5spd GT. Clutch is new and so ar all mounts. I am not sure it has anything to do with drive line lash?? Its very hard to make a small change or smooth start with the manual tranny. With an automatic it is similar but you dont have the user coordination of the throttle and clutch to balance. I believe it is typical of the Subie.

I had a '90 legacy wagon with the torque bind. took it to the Subaru stealer in Massilon. They did $1400 worth of work. At least they took my money! Then on the way home the torque bind was still there. Took it back, and they claim they could not make it happen again. So I was stuck by the Subaru stealer in Massilon. Ended up putting a fuse in the FWD holder and just drove it. Only 2wd but torque bind was gone. Good luck! Don't take it to Massilon!

Cel Po420
MDW25gt replied to MDW25gt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Thanks for the reply, The sensors have maybe 5000 miles. The front I believe is a 3 wire and the rear is 4. Stock replacements. I switched them when I went to a borla header and stromung exhaust. What is with the ground? -
Got a CEL today that is PO420. Catalyst system efficieny for Bank #1 is below threshhold for the current operating conditions. (Bank 1 identifies the location of cylinder #1, while bank #2 identifies the cylinders on the opposite bank.) Plud wires are 2 months old, fuel filter is 2 weeks old, plugs have 8000 miles on them, engine has 5500 miles on it. any ideas?? Thanks, Mike

So....i did a few things to the RX today...

Neat stuff. I am interested in learning more about the RX. What years did they make them? What engine? How long have you had yours? Pictures? Thanks, Mike -
I put KYB GR2's on a 90 leg wagon that originally had air. I was very pleased. Required going to a yard and getting the upper bearing mounts and springs + the new struts from tire rack. $150 from the yard. OEMs where too high for me. On my current ride (99 Leg GT wagon) I put the KYB GR2's. Again very pleased. I would guess that the KYB's would be good on yours. Then maybe look at larger sway bar. I dont really know what the difference is with the GT vs L suspension. I can check the diameters of the sway bar if you are interested. Good Luck, Mike

Ok theres my problem. The engine is new. 5000 miles. I have a problem with intermittent miss. Comes and goes. Runs like it has a bad valve. The motor "thumps" rather than sings when I go through the gears. It just does not pull the way it does at times when it is running good. It does not do it all of the time. Seems to come and go with no direct cause and effect that I can tell. Wires are new and plugs have maybe 8000 mile on them. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Mike

I thought I had a bad one in my 99 gt wagon. turned out the tires were cupped. When they were moved around the sound moved around too. Raising the tire pressure to max eased it some. the mechanic put it on a rack and put a stethascope on the axle but was not able to hear anything when the wheel was rotated.
