You know your a Subaru Freak...when
This is a disturbing thread.. I'm guilty of most of these... I didn't usually follow the driver across town though.. I just waited until I saw it parked and then I would leave a note on it.

Uhh... Sorta Subie Related
BlueSoob replied to blitz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm gonna second sydfloyd... we had a sales rep come to the maintenance shop and that day his Daewoo Lanos died. He only had it almost a year. He had 65,000 miles on it. He broke the timing belt on it and it pretty much totalled the car. He wanted to fix it and sell it for 6000$ Everyone at the shop was laughing under their breath... he would have never sold it.... Parts are pretty darn hard to come by and from what i hear from the guy, its not exactly a cheap car to have either

A few ongoing problems with 2002 Forrester
BlueSoob replied to mtbtom's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf it makes you feel any better, Before 36,000 miles, I had replaced the ECM, the clutch, the door seals, spark plugs, airbags, airbag sensors, - and that was outside of routine maintenance. It really did frighten me about what was to become of my car. I panicked and bought the extended warrenty. But ever since I passed the 36,000 mile mark, the car has given me ABSOLUTELY NO trouble whatsoever. (except the howl which I think is coming from the tires) No biggie. Don't worry yet.

highest mileage?
hm... Does it count for high mileage on new cars? 45000 on an 03? hehe I sold my 93 Legacy with 198,000 on it and it ran like a champ.. I made a run from WA to IL and came back through TX, NM, CO etc... just 2 months before I sold it. We had another 90 Legacy in the fam here and bought it with 188,000 on it and sold it at 250,000. The lady it was sold to is too cheap to repair or change the oile and for some reason we still see it running around the highway here... must be upwards of 300,000+ now. and thats running without an oil change... whew!

Cold weather noise
Ok. Because I am paranoid about this new model... Whenever it freezes outside I hear a "howling" when I take my car 35+ mph. at 45,000 miles on my 03 Forester, I have wind noise through the seals on the window and I know thats not it. It sounds like a hound dog on crack howl. auhg auhg auhg (not quite sure how to spell that sound) It wasnt really loud yesterday -actully hardly noticeable.. as the temp was 25 degrees. WHen it snowed here and the temp was hangin at 0 it was louder and more distinguishable. (snow, ice etc) I made it into town, let it sit while I was at work and then I drove it home and the sound was gone... I thought .. hmmm must have been ice in the wheel or something.. then it happened again yesterday.. no snow.. just frost.. Its coming from the passenger side.. but sounds like it could be from the front or the back.. I can't tell.. (I know that helps alot) If it helps you out any, the car has seen dirt logging roads alot and has had several long distance trips but for the most part runs between town and home (55 mile round trip) - I run synth every 5000 miles and check it frequently.. though I doubt it has anything to do with how frequently i change my oil. Ideas???

Puget Sound Service
BlueSoob replied to jozza's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you're lookin to get your 30k done for a bit of a lower price, I HIGHLY recommend Smart Service in Shoreline/Montlake Terrace. Its right off of I-5. Many of the board members take their cars there and I have taken mine there for 6 years (when there was only the owner there!) Danbob from this board works there too. I think that its still the case that if you get a major service done there (like 30k) that he will hook you up with a rental car. (Most dealerships will not do this unless you purchased your car from there) But if you insist on dealerships... I've taken my car to most seattle/south/east side dealerships and out of em all.. I would go back to Chaplains.. They get the job done and even went the extra mile and put in a replacement clutch for me...when i had originally taken it in for a check engine light (some other misc thing)

'03 Forester problems
BlueSoob replied to 4WDGL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat didn't happen to my 03 For. Get it back to the dealership and have em check it out immed. Engine ping only happened to me when I used Costco or other questionable gas.. and only when I let it rev higher... I tend to stick with Chevron, Shell and Esso Regular fuel.. If it makes you feel any better, all the bugs in my 03 seemed to have worked out before 36k... It was to the dealership every 8-10,000 miles.. Just remember.. it is a new model redesign.. there will be some bugs to work out.. I just accepted that.. I haven't been back to the shop except for oil changes since 36k (up to 45k now) The coolant smell... I dunno.. didn't smell that...

forester issues
BlueSoob replied to subegrl's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhi.. i have an 03 forester... I did get the extended warrenty because of the things i hear going bad on the forester... I am very happy with mine... had a few things go bad but that was all before 30,000 miles ECM went awry but no one could figure out why... my dealership took care of me while I was without a car.... the clutch judder IS NOT normal... though it does happen alot... it was subarus attempt at going asbestos free clutch... they do have a fix for it and demand that it is taken care of... there is a problem that arose with the side airbags in the 03s... the wires would get pinched under the seat as you slide it back and forth.... there is a fix for it... a wire separating kit... make sure the dealership knows and fixes it.. there is no danger of the airbags going off... just the codes and the light Wheel bearings are something i figure i'll just wait for... dunno about how the new models will handle that.... No sign of head gasket trouble on my end yet... though I'm religious about oil changes and using mobil 1 synthetic... and for regular service... don't go to the dealership... i saved 200$ on my 30k by going to a local foreign car place....

My 86 GL
Yes, I do actually have some older cars hidden away... but on Monday, my parents allowed it to be towed to the junkie yard... Is it worth saving? Its got blown head gaskets.. but new brakes.. ok clutch.. the fenders are so-so.. 196,000, interior needs cleaned... the rest.. well.. take a peek... is it worth worrying about?

Rumors of Huge Soobie meet..
I know that Subaru usually does a big Mountain Bike Race in Illinois... could be one of those trail/event things... i dunno.. i wouldn't suspect Illinois being a hotbed of Subaru Drivers
