My parents are wanting to get a new vehicle, because they don't like driving the Jag in the snow. They want something bigger, and are looking at getting an H3. I told them that a forester would be a much better choice for what they need (they are expecting a baby, and want something safer and larger), and told them about better gas milage, cheaper, better resale value, much better 4wd system... How else can I convince them that the Forester is the way to go???? I would be really dissapointed if they got pos h3. Thanks, Phil

That price seems a little high, but your in Canada. I bought a 97 GT with 125k miles for 5400. As you have read, the head gasket is the only major possible problem with the car. Mine was leaking oil from the block, so I had the head gasket and spark plug seals replaced, and so far, no more leak. It's a really great car in all weather. But because of the price, I would keep looking.

In the automatics, the torque split is 90% in the front and 10% in the rear until slipage is detected, in which case the torque split can become up to 50-50. It might feel like only the front wheels are driving, but more than likely it's just that torque split, unless you know for sure that the back wheels aren't driving.

Just got a 1997 Legacy GT, and it runs great. It has a couple of quirks though. When the power antenna goes down, it works the way it should until it is completely down. The electric motors continues to pull the antenna down, making an obnoxious noise. It works the same way when going up. [it seems as if the antenna should be longer]. The other problem is the gas gauge isn't accurate after 3/4 of a tank. Neither of these problems are bothering me enough to take it to a dealership or garage, I am just curious to see if there is any easy way to fix these problems. Thanks!

Check out the back yard boys lift kit for the Liberty (that's the legacy down under). http://www.ausubaru.com/byb/

My grandfather drove his 1980's Buick for six or seven years, and never bought a new set of tyres. Whenever he got a flat or had a tyre that was balding severly, he would go to a gas station, look through the re-treads, and buy whatever he could fit on the rim and whatever was cheapest. The car was drivable, but when no tyre on the car is the same, you can definately feel it going down the highway, or any street for that matter. You can run differently sized tyres, but I wouldn't recomend it though.

My parents had the same high frequency noise problem in their 3.0 Liter Jaguar. They had the car in and out of the dealer 3 or 4 times. We had the amp replaced, and the noise stopped. I think that the way the amp was mounted in the car allowed for it (the amp) to vibrate at certian speeds (of the car) (Natural frequency and its overtones.) (There's some physics for you.) It could be the same problem, but mabey something completely different. I don't know if there are any hidden amps on the 01 LL Bean. I posted this in a different thread, where you made this same comment. I moved it over here, hoping it might help.

One of the key differences that you will notice is that the Legacy will have CUP HOLDERS. Bimmers hardly ever put them into their cars. The power range might be a bit more broad in the Bimmer, but I love it more than anything when the turbo kicks in. And as far as reliability is concerned, the Legacy will go on forever. Subaru's are known for reliability, and BMW's, simply aren't. As with any European car (especially BMW) you can expect a lot of air time (on a lift in a garage). My mom has a BMW with 24,000 miles. She has never had any serious problems, but there have been quite a few minor problems and inconvienences. The interior of the car just doesn't seem to be solid. I would definately choose the Subie, but I may not be the best person to talk to though, because I feel that BMW is an acronym for Big Money Waster! You may want to post at a BMW forum to get a "different" point of view.
