  1. My parents are wanting to get a new vehicle, because they don't like driving the Jag in the snow. They want something bigger, and are looking at getting an H3. I told them that a forester would be a much better choice for what they need (they are expecting a baby, and want something safer and larger), and told them about better gas milage, cheaper, better resale value, much better 4wd system... How else can I convince them that the Forester is the way to go???? I would be really dissapointed if they got pos h3. Thanks, Phil
  2. Rainex makes a product called Fogex. It will keep your windows from fogging, but if you don't apply just the right amount, it will leave streaks on your windows.
  3. I had my 97 GT out in the snow (8 inches) for the first time yesterday, and it really is the best thing I have ever driven in the snow. I drove my dads Suburban later in the evening, and there is really no comparison. I can't wait until I get some more aggressive tyres on my roo ;-).
  4. I would like to get some aggressive offroad tires, and it seems that anything for 16 inch wheels is too wide. Thanks for all your help, Phil
  5. I have a 1997 Legacy GT and I want to get some 15 inch wheels. Could I use the wheels from a LS or L Legacy from the same year? I guess my real question is weather or not the lug nut pattern is the same.
  6. My ABS is the same way, and my engine has a nice growl after about 3500 RPM. Seems like this car is in good shape. If you can get the price down, it sounds like a really good deal.
  7. That price seems a little high, but your in Canada. I bought a 97 GT with 125k miles for 5400. As you have read, the head gasket is the only major possible problem with the car. Mine was leaking oil from the block, so I had the head gasket and spark plug seals replaced, and so far, no more leak. It's a really great car in all weather. But because of the price, I would keep looking.
  8. I can't believe that 30 people would bid on it and that someone is willing to pay over 5000 for it! It's kinda cool knowing it was in a car chase, but it looks like it was really smashed up. I wouldn't pay that much for it, but I forgot about the huge screwdriver, so that makes it worth it! :-)
  9. Supposedly, the way the aerodynamics are, you can drive the car with the windows down in a rainstorm, and not get wet. This has been done with varried success. It also makes for more visibility for the driver by making the blind spots smaller or non-existant.
  10. NICE!! That red hatch is beautiful. Keep it up.
  11. When you notice anything like that (bird crap) try to get it off as soon as possible and keep it out of the sun.
  12. In the automatics, the torque split is 90% in the front and 10% in the rear until slipage is detected, in which case the torque split can become up to 50-50. It might feel like only the front wheels are driving, but more than likely it's just that torque split, unless you know for sure that the back wheels aren't driving.
  13. I really like the underside of the car (all that aerodynamic armor). It doesn't look as bad as I thought it was going to though. Any ideas on what the 07 Sti is gonna look like?
  14. Found some specs and history concerning this "badged" engine. http://www.iwoc.co.uk/subf1.html
  15. Found this on Ebay. They need one of those in the 07 STi. Hehe! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-12cyl-F1-engine_W0QQitemZ7998119030QQcategoryZ33615QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  16. Just got a 1997 Legacy GT, and it runs great. It has a couple of quirks though. When the power antenna goes down, it works the way it should until it is completely down. The electric motors continues to pull the antenna down, making an obnoxious noise. It works the same way when going up. [it seems as if the antenna should be longer]. The other problem is the gas gauge isn't accurate after 3/4 of a tank. Neither of these problems are bothering me enough to take it to a dealership or garage, I am just curious to see if there is any easy way to fix these problems. Thanks!
  17. Check out the back yard boys lift kit for the Liberty (that's the legacy down under). http://www.ausubaru.com/byb/
  18. My grandfather drove his 1980's Buick for six or seven years, and never bought a new set of tyres. Whenever he got a flat or had a tyre that was balding severly, he would go to a gas station, look through the re-treads, and buy whatever he could fit on the rim and whatever was cheapest. The car was drivable, but when no tyre on the car is the same, you can definately feel it going down the highway, or any street for that matter. You can run differently sized tyres, but I wouldn't recomend it though.
  19. My parents had the same high frequency noise problem in their 3.0 Liter Jaguar. They had the car in and out of the dealer 3 or 4 times. We had the amp replaced, and the noise stopped. I think that the way the amp was mounted in the car allowed for it (the amp) to vibrate at certian speeds (of the car) (Natural frequency and its overtones.) (There's some physics for you.) It could be the same problem, but mabey something completely different. I don't know if there are any hidden amps on the 01 LL Bean. I posted this in a different thread, where you made this same comment. I moved it over here, hoping it might help.
  20. One of the key differences that you will notice is that the Legacy will have CUP HOLDERS. Bimmers hardly ever put them into their cars. The power range might be a bit more broad in the Bimmer, but I love it more than anything when the turbo kicks in. And as far as reliability is concerned, the Legacy will go on forever. Subaru's are known for reliability, and BMW's, simply aren't. As with any European car (especially BMW) you can expect a lot of air time (on a lift in a garage). My mom has a BMW with 24,000 miles. She has never had any serious problems, but there have been quite a few minor problems and inconvienences. The interior of the car just doesn't seem to be solid. I would definately choose the Subie, but I may not be the best person to talk to though, because I feel that BMW is an acronym for Big Money Waster! You may want to post at a BMW forum to get a "different" point of view.

  22. Cuts and weak spots in the sidewall are no good!!! They are really difficult, if not impossible to repair. And for $39 a tyre, that's a good deal any day. Don't risk it on the older tyres.
  23. who is that using the Good Year Ultra Grip snow tires? there are better and cheaper snow tires for offroading
  24. Which of the 50 states have emissions testing? I live in Indiana and we don't have to worry about such a thing. Lucky Us!!
