I've got what I believe is an exhaust leak on my 97 Impreza OBS 2.2 non-egr. I've sealed up what I thought were some leaks, however that did not seem to help. This past weekend I pulled the entire exhaust off as one piece and pressure tested it. I found no discernable leaks in the piping. The issue I am having is that when the fresh air/recirc set to fresh air and I am standing still at a stop light, it brings in exhaust fumes (pre-catalyst smell). I can not find a leak in the piping and my next thought is where the EGR hooks up to the heads. Those that have EGR, where exactly does it hook up to the head? Beyond the EGR, I'm at a loss. There is a little bit of power steering fluid that is slowly leaking, but I don't believe that to be the smell I'm getting. I'm going to work on fixing that, but don't believe it will fix the exhaust smell. Any thoughts/comments are appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure how the universal mounts work, but I'm sure you could fab something up that would work.

Yeah, if it dripped into the shield, he's probably just going to have to wait for it to burn away. He can try spraying brake cleaner around the area where the oil original dripped to possibly help the oil burn away.

There may be some commercially available brush guards that are sold in Australia or NZ. They may be able to give you info on spacing, but I'd probably suggest just measuring it yourself.

Yeah, if you only use it that much, then it's probably not worth filling up.

I've noticed that the mineral spirits will evaporate over time, but for as long as I have had the thing and as much as I've used it, I can't say the solvent has evaporated too badly.

Did the dealer indicate what model year the newer tear drop remotes go to? If you can find out the model years that tear drop remote is applicable to, we can maybe find some more info about the newer keyless remote systems.

Just curious if anyone is near Lawrence, KS and could check a car out for me. TIA.

Turbone, I changed your original post from series to parallel for clarification sakes for any newbies that may be searching in the future and not read the entire thread. I've got two yellow tops, and my older one I had thought was dead, but I had another issue with a relay in the starter interlock circuit. Both the old yellow top & new one. I've read/been told comments that the yellow tops need a little more amperage to charge them fully. Not sure if that's true or not...

I too have one of the HF parts washers and mineral spirits. It works pretty well on most stuff. If I have stubborn parts I'll supplement the mineral spirits with brake cleaner. One thing I do not care for with the mineral spirits is that is leaves a little bit of a residue. If I need to get rid of the residue from the mineral spirits I will wash the parts with the Zep orange degreaser you can get at home depot. That combination has worked pretty well for me over the years.

I haven't seen a place for Subaru driver's specific tire reviews. The reviews on tire rack are a pretty reasonable indicator of the tire. Discount online also has some reviews.

Welcome to the USMB. Your legacy has two speed sensors. VSS1 is the one in the transmission, while VSS2 is the one used by the speedometer. If your speedo works, it's likely VSS1. To get the hub off you need to remove the long bolt that connects the lateral links to the hub, remove the bolt holding the trailing link arm to the hub, the two bolts holding the strut to the hub, and you must remove the bolt holding the CV axle on. Additionally, you'll need to remove the brake line & parking brake cable. Once all that is off, the hub should come off.

It may have been a timing belt idler pulley bearing, and the belt may have jumped a tooth, which could be causing your low power and sputtering. How many miles are on the car and when was the last time the belt has been replaced, or any other routine maintenance?

It could be your fuel pump or fuel pump wiring. I'd suggest putting a gauge on the fuel system by the fuel filter and see what your pressure is like.
