SPFI piston sizes
Im interested in putting the SPFI pistons in a EA81 for a hi compression one. I have all B sized pistons in my engine currently. How and where are the SPFI pistons marked?

EA82 manual trans into EA81 auto car, doable?
If they are both 3 speed than yes i believe that holds true as well. If the EA82 is 4 speed auto then i dont think it will work...but then again i barely ever hear about people keeping the autos so who knows

flywheel and clutch setup is the same as well.

You wouldnt have to change hubs or axles. A non turbo 2wd 5 speed EA82 trans is exactly the same as a 2wd 5 speed EA81 trans. They didnt change anything about them.

Hatchback Tail Light Gaskets
I tried to make my own gaskets once for my coupe. They leaked like crazy. What really sealed it up was using dum dum (http://www.amazon.com/3M-Automotive-MMM8578-Strip-Black/dp/B000PEZ1L4) made by 3m. I just mushed together my own gasket and pressed the lights back on. No leaks yet and its been like that for almost a year. A good amount of new cars use this method of sealing tail lights.

Newb saying hi and question about manifold flange gaskets
the other thing you can do is go to napa and tell them you have an 87 subaru turbo and would like exhaust gaskets for it. They are MUCH stronger gaskets than the normal stock stuff that napa carries for your car. I have a set in mine and have reused them multiple times without issue and no leaks so far (knock on wood).

EA81 hessitation blues
Still got a cat on it? Im wondering if its plugged up. The cat on the coupe was completely clogged and was most likely part of the running problems it had. How are the tune-up items on the motor? plugs, wires rotor, cap.

Documented: The 1970 FF-1 Project car...
maybe too retro but this is the one that i picked out of that bunch. Some of them looked too modern for that cars interior. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/GRT-967-0/?rtype=10

if the steering wheel is going like you said the interior is screaming for one like this... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220684525656&viewitem=#vi-content Something three spoke either black leather or wood rim. Not nessisarily that one but something like it. Would add to the vintage sporty look you have going with the wheels and motor.

new wheels for the BRAT arrived
They look like they are in pretty good shape. I always liked those style wheels. Reminded me of american racing mags from the 70s on american muscle cars. Fit the fattest rubber you can find on those (cooper cobras maybe) and mount em and youll have a good looking brat.

What wheels are these?
Im not a big fan of the wheels sticking out past the fenders look. I mean it looks ok but ive seen better looking wheels on these cars.

gl10?
Yea i wasnt going to bother getting into the vast array of odd engine and tranny combos that could come from that option . Ive seen 2wd automatic EA82 turbo GL-10s before. Doesnt get much more strange than that if you ask me. EA81 GL-10s all had the same motor though..with no turbo option. Also all EA81 GL-10s were 2wd while EA82 GL-10s could be either.

gl10?
Depends on what years your talking about. For the most part though a GL-10 had more options than a GL. In the EA81s the only option you could not get in the GL that was standard in the GL-10 was the digi-dash. Same with the EA82 cars. GL-10s basically had more standard options than GL's. I think they all got sunroofs, power windows, cruise, alloys. With GL's you could always option for those but they were not standard.

Saying goodbye to an old friend
Well here is a refresher for people that dont remember or never saw. I crashed my 83 sedan about 8 months ago on New Years. Here is the post about it. http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=107359 Well yesterday John (Backwoodsboy) came down to claim his new ride. He is planning on fixing it up and putting it back on the road. And hopefully it will be back to its glory days eventually

Odd EA81 cruise control problem
Figured id bring this back from the dead and let everyone know what the cause turned out to be. I found a massive vacuum leak (engine ran great for the size leak it had). It was on one of the vacuum fittings on the intake right next to where the cruise was picking up vacuum from so thats why i had no cruise. Fixed the leak and i have cruise again.

2 questions Weber and intake for EA81

Brat rear disc brake conversion questions
Why cant you use the factory mount? Am i missing something? When i did my disk swap i was able to use the factory mount.

Factory paint?
Oh i could have answered that one. the Japanese were WAY ahead of the americans in the 80s with paint tech. They were doing base/clears in the early 80s where most american car makers were not. Thats also why my car after 28 years still has a somewhat respectable factory finish.

Factory paint?
Just asked my body shop buddy this. His reply and i quote " All manufacturers varried but I'd say enamal, prolly water based. Lacquer was old school stuff ended in the 60s, and urethanes are too new" Hope this helps.

DGEV Brat issues
Not one of your questions but your PCV routing is wrong. You need a 1/4" hose between the passenger side head and the PCV valve/drivers side head in order to get the correct flow. Otherwise you will be pulling oil from the valve covers into the intake. Here is how it should be hooked up.

My dash 85 brat looks like the grand canyon
Best option is to find a good one in a junkyard and swap it. If you have never pulled a dash before plan to spend over an hour.
