??? about the ej18
DerFahrer replied to crazy D's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFrom what I've learned with my EJ18 project so far, the ONLY real difference between the EJ18 and the N/A EJ22 is the bore. Everything else is virtually identical.

New "turbo-Acura" Outback rip off!!!!!
DerFahrer replied to williamhilow's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat thing is ************ing ugly. I'm sorry. The only new-for-2006-or-up Honda that looks good is the Fit. Everything else is hideous. As far as the turbo thing, it's the 80's all over again. Everyone is turbo-crazy. BMW's new high-end 3-series coupe, the 335i, is twin-turbo. BMW hasn't made a turbo car for the street since the 2002 Turbo!!

Possibly Std. models have black trim?Turn signals
76 and 77 had the different front-end, the turn signals mounted in the grill, inwards of the headlights. Like Mick said, 78's appear to be all black, and 79's don't show any black ones, only silver. The Brat for 80 and 81 only has silver too.

Engine and Tranny Mounts
You don't have much other choice than OEM ones, and these are becoming scarce quickly...

Brat + svx = ?
I could easily get myself in trouble with that... And it's RHD! JDM tYt3 y0!!

Urgent, transmission needed
Ack! You have an EA71 S/R 4spd tranny? I might very well be interested. I'm pretty much for sure having my original rebuilt, but I'm one who definitely likes to have "extras" on hand PM me if you do indeed have one, I don't wanna hijack RenaissanceMan's thread.

Hows this for a House Warming Gift??
The description in that ad seems a little risque for the early 70's

Interference or non?
DerFahrer replied to 2X2KOB's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, it is non-interference. 100% sure.

EJ18 progress
I thought you all might like to see progress of my seemingly-controversial EJ18 build. Just so everyone knows, I plan on rebuilding the EJ18 shortblock (I'm told this engine does have 230k miles on it) and putting some EJ205 (USDM WRX) heads on it, then putting it into a GF Impreza wagon. Other than that, I'm not sure what I'm going to do, as far as which turbo I'm gonna use, etc. etc. My goal is to get 300 chp out of it. That's all I need, that's all I want. Plus, I figure a Phase I open-deck 1.8-liter engine isn't good for much more no matter what I do to it. Anyway, I'll update this thread as I move along. I did take it down basically to a longblock today: Here's what it looked like the day I got it: Expect to see most of this stuff on eBay in the next couple days: I can't do much more than that, as it's stuck on the tire. Once I get an engine stand (which won't be for a couple months ), the heads will come off, and I'll probably tear the shortblock down.

1973 Splitgate Wagon
Yeah, I agree with operose. I like it the way it is now. Just throw some Pugs on it or something

One more silly question
Could just be a bushing, or a loose bracket, or something to that effect. I'm 99% sure it's nothing to lose sleep over. Like I said, I should have my 79's transmission out in the next few months, and my curious nature will no doubt be inspecting the shifter mechanisms to determine their condition.
-
One more silly question
When you mean "rattle" do you mean that it makes a rattling noise? Or do you mean the shifter feels loose? If the shifter feels loose, I would suspect bushings, like kettel said. I guess it's just a big of a problem as the actual gear shifter bushings...

78 Brat stalls after 20ish seconds
I'm fairly sure it's a carb issue. We are talking about Hitachis here
-
78 Brat stalls after 20ish seconds
So, if I hotwire the fuel pump and I can still only get it to run for about 20 seconds, then I must have another problem.

Last Year for 2.2L?
DerFahrer replied to jasinwa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXVery good call Blitz. I just verified on Subarunet that the 2000 and 2001 EJ22s do indeed have 10:1 CR. Mental note taken

New Wheels for my Loyale New Pics added 56K Run away now
It's surprising how good hubcaps can look when repainted with a bit of imagination!

One more silly question
If you can wait a few months , I'll let you know what's going on there when I drop the tranny out of my 79.

Last Year for 2.2L?
DerFahrer replied to jasinwa's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOne of these days I'm gonna compile an EJ engine stats report and have a mod sticky it. EJ22 was non-interference through 1996. In 1997, there was a switch to solid lifters, and the crown of the pistons was reshaped to bring compression up to 9.7:1 from 9.5:1, and that also made the engine interference. In 1999, the EJ22 Phase II was introduced, with the main difference being the thrust bearing relocated to the #5 position, instead of the Phase I #3 position. The last year for the EJ22 in the Legacy was 1999, and the last year for the EJ22 in the Impreza, and in all Subarus, was 2001.

the best subaru project from israel = must see this thing.
If it was a pristine Brat with like 30k miles on it that they had butchered up to make that thing, I woulda been pretty pissed about it actually. But the Brat was in rough shape and probably off to the yard anyway, so no biggie.

The vintage eye popper, eye candy post
Just for giggles, I checked the part # on the bag on the 'Subaru' emblem... Oh yeah, it's definitely obsolete Beautiful stuff Paul!

Old 4 lug VW rims on subes
As one of my middle-school teachers used to say: "Close" only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and head lice. Though it may be similar, similar won't work in this case.

Gee I wish I had the rest of the car too
Being 100% honest here, that sent a shiver down my spine. That is f'ing gorgeous!!

78 Brat stalls after 20ish seconds
That's sorta what mine will do, but I have to keep the throttle open to keep it running. For what it's worth, I already know my voltage regulator is bad (and the voltage regulator contains the fuel pump relay), as I have to hotwire my fuel pump directly to the battery to get it to run.

USMB on Bravo TV
I'll add something, I just need some time to put in a meaningful response...
