  1. Yeah, your cable is getting old. I had mine replaced in my Legacy soon after I got it, and it was a night-and-day difference. My Legacy's cable clutch is lighter than any hydraulic clutch I've ever driven... I need to replace the XT's cable as it is rather heavy like yours...
  2. Ahh so you can put the car up on a lift... you suck:D Plus yours is 2WD which will probably make it a cinch... Bushbasher, if you have trouble shifting, loosen up your clutch cable, that will move the disengagement point up higher. If its gets worse again in a few days, get ready, your clutch is getting ready to crap...
  3. For the love of the Subaru gods, be careful cleaning it!!! You can make it worse by putting the wrong crap in there. I sprayed carb cleaner in mine (some cheap off-brand) and ruined the IAC valve. I had to makeshift an idle by using the throttle body stopscrew. I've been told to use brake cleaner instead, since that evaporates...:-\
  4. Haha, you and I both are lucky to reap the benefits of a brand-new air suspension without the cost of one! My XT does not seem to do such a thing though. As a matter of fact, I usually lean against my car when refueling it, and I can actually feel the rear end sink down a little bit when I fill it up:confused: Yours has driver control though, doesn't it? Mine doesn't, it's all automatic...
  5. So you buy a very old car with a few bugs... big deal. Buying a very rare Subaru and fixing it up/restoring it is the whole point, that's what's fun about it! He just has no appreciation :madder: I've done this sort of thing twice now
  6. Finding shifter bushings for any old Subaru is strictly a go-to-the-dealer proposition. No one else makes them... By the way, Conker, let me know how the bushing install goes, as I need to do them on my XT soon... I just went through that with my Legacy and it was a royal PITA... Of course, yours is 2WD, that's probably a cinch anyway:banghead:
  7. Uh-oh, can't be good Another question from someone new to this "on-demand" pushbutton 4WD stuff... What causes a delay in the engagement or disengagement of 4WD? I just put 4 new tires on it, so it's not difference in tire wear. And I know not to engage it in turns. Sometimes it engages immediately, sometimes it takes a few seconds, same for disengaging... I don't think the system is faulty in any way, I'm just curious what causes the delay... TIA
  8. There is a possibility of the thinner synthetic oil slipping through the aging oil seals... 73k isn't very high, but not new either... I use Valvoline 10W40 partial synthetic in both my cars. I can't say they run better or anything like that, but when I took my valve covers off my Legacy last summer, the valvetrain was spotless, so I'm not going to change something that works. Because of that, I use the same in my XT...
  9. Ask Josh (Legacy777). He did a fine job of it on his Legacy, and I will follow in his footsteps soon...
  10. I personally find that the engine won't get enough fuel to actually turn over after the pump has been killed, so I pull it after the engine is already running... Or you could just let it sit overnight and the fuel pressure will be pretty low in the morning... As for the smell, check the hoses around the charcoal canister (right behind your pass. headlight). That is usually the first thing to cause a fuel odor in the car...
  11. Josh, I will leave a good comment on every board you post this on , so here goes: I'd kill to make my Legacy looked like that!
  12. Everyone is exactly right. NO2 simply adds a whole bunch of oxygen to the air/fuel mixture, therefore causing a VERY lean condition. The ECU will compensate by adding more fuel, but it can only do so much through a factory fuel system... Therefore I would never give any car the laughing gas without making absolutely sure the fuel system can handle it, i.e. upgrade the injectors, pump, rails, etc. etc.
  13. I say do a coolant flush. I looked at a 92 Ford Taurus for somebody once (hey it was $500 and basic transporation!) That car was also well-known for head-gasket problems, and I noticed some foam/bubbles in the overflow tank. But I took off the radiator cap when it was cold and told them to start it up. Not one bubble ever emerged from the radiator itself, it behaved normally. And had plenty of power. So there was just some weird crap in the tank that made it do that...
  14. The only cars that I know of that take motor oil in their trannies are Hondas :eh:
  15. Hey! Did you decide what you were going to do with your other cars? I say you keep em all... We all know you can't have TOO many Subarus...
  16. Okay... new regulator in. My XT has a window in it now!!! However, I have one last little problem... It's an auto up-and-down window. Auto down is fine, but auto up keeps going up and up until the regulator won't let it go any farther and then I can hear the motor keep tryin to push it up. Do I hafta time that motor initially or something? I hear some Toyotas need their window motors hooked up for 10 seconds, then pulled, then installed...
  17. A filter element, yes. Complete intake, no way. The turbo intake has to go to the turbo, that right there makes it worlds apart...
  18. Koreans aren't that bad anymore. The most recent JD Power reliability report I read had Toyota 1st, Hyundai 2ND!!, Honda 3rd and Subaru 4th... Still, any Korean car out there today is about as exciting as a Camry in my opinion. Subaru has much more personality
  19. Well, I tried to get one from a (sort of) local guy... about 2 hours away, the one I pulled from his junk XT Turbo was worse than mine, and we tried aimlessly to fix mine, and, needless to say, it didn't work... So, as someone as impatient as me usually does, I'm simply going to head to the dealer tomorrow and pick up a new one for a pretty penny. My Legacy is in pieces in the garage and cannot be driven, so I really need this car to work good and work good NOW!
  20. It's an SUV. I hate SUV's. I don't care if it's a Subaru. Subaru defies convention, not give into it. I'm disappointed in Subaru. That's all I have to say.
  21. I would still be laughing. Of all the ways for a car to get totalled... highway accident, hail damage, tree falling on it, etc. etc. you hit a MOOSE!! Oh well, sorry to hear of the car's demise :boohoo: and glad you're okay...
  22. I pulled off my door panel today and asked around about how regulators work. My cable is strung out and dangling all over the place, so problem has been identified... That said, look in the Marketplace forum
  23. OBviously that pic is chopped I still have it in my Subaru pics folder, coz it does look tight
