Its a shame.... what do I do...
Tommy, I have talked to you after all this came up, a few times actually. You text me every few days to tell me you don't know anything yet. I guess I should have responded and said OK. When you asked me on Thursday or Friday if I was getting your texts, I told you I was. My not responding to every single text doesn't mean you can't get a hold of me. Your message today was rude and threatening to "go public with this" is pretty silly considering that's all you've been doing. Telling me you "will post more and more" if I refuse pay isn't going to make me pay you. The car was fine when it left here. It didn't need a clutch, and it didn't need engine rebuild. It was runing good. I told you everything that was wrong with it. I NEVER would have sold it if there was a problem, especially to someone here on the board. I'm not going to argue, but I'm tired of reading about how dishonest I am. Quote: Originally Posted by biffanyus Once again Im having a hard time getting you to return my emails and texts. I will consider the $70 for the clutch as part payment towards the fix already of course. But please do the right thing and help me fix the engine you said was fine and obviously is not. PLEASE CALL ME SOON!!!!

Is my Brat a dud???? Need help!!
Tommy, I will call you tomorrow (Saturday) when I will have time to have a good conversation. I'm sorry that you're having problem, but I really can't understand that. There were no problems when it left here except the issues we already talked about (paint, torn boot, etc.). Definately NO issues with compression. I'm not very happy about this, either. I already sent you money for the clutch that you said was bad and now this. Anyway, if you can wait until tomorrow, we can talk then.

Group buy for Gen I BRAT tail light gaskets?
If anyone does make them, I'd be interested in a set. They wouldn't be really expensive, would they?
-
rear bumper?
I have a 78, but I'm selling a 79 with about perfect bumpers and i didn't know if I should swap them before I sell it. Guess I should.
-
rear bumper?
I'm sure this is a stupid question, but are new bumbers available for gen 1 Brats?
-
SURVEY New rear glass rubber weatherstrips???
If they get made, I'm in for a gen 1 and 2

Important news
Wow, i just noticed the date on the post. That was a long wait. Well, at least that's a huge weight off your shoulders. It's awful always looking in the rearview for a cop. So... woo-hoo

what say you - 78 brat
Driving on the interstate isn't impossible, it's just not the same as a newer, more powerful car. It's a bit louder, but in my opinion, it's also a lot more fun. You can't compare it to a '95 Legacy or a '98 Outback, they're not the same at all. If you want a cool, unusual car that's a kick to drive, that you can work, and that is judst plain cool, then get a Brat. you might also want to consider a gen 2. A bit bigger & a 1.8 instead of a 1.6.

what say you - 78 brat
My '78 was my daily driver (until I decided to try to keep the miles below 100K), and I loved it. You're right that it's not fast, but it keeps up and it's a blast to drive.

Duralast clutch
141K miles, no slipping, but lots of chatter if I'm not super careful. I figured while it was out, i'd do the whole thing and save any of the old good parts just in case.

Duralast clutch
Cool, I guess I found my new clutch. Thanks everyone

Duralast clutch
Wow, that's a great deal. Is that a good brand? And, thanks for the info about the Duralast. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Like I said, I don't nedd a high performance clutch, but I do need one that will last in a daily driver.

31+ mpg!
I got a warning ticket for speeding three weeks ago, so I've been very careful and I have to say it paid off. I just filled up and figured out my mileage and it was a whopping 41 mpg!!! It's a '86 Standard, so it should get good gas mileage, but that seemed awesome. I can't wait to see what it gets when it's all fixed up and running perfect.

FL to CA, needed maint?
Don't know where in Cali, but if you come through Tucson, AZ, you should go to Sabino Canyon, Mt. Lemon, Picture Rocks, & drive through Saguaro Nat'l Monument. Everyone needs to see a saguaro cactus, and there's only a couple of palces in the world to see them (all near here). There are a few people on the board here, so at least you know there's someone to help if anything happens.

Duralast clutch
Can anyone tell me if a Duralast clutch is good? It's for a 2WD 1986 Standard, so I don't need a high performance one. I just want to get one that's good quality. I can get it for $80 (new, not remanned or relined). The others are a Borg-Warner for $90 or an Exedy for $113. Thanks for any info.

Source for Brat parts?
Anything in particular you're looking for?

Not sure where to put this...Carfax request
Can anyone do a carfax? Thanks

Inconsistent idling problem
My '78 Brat is doing the same thing and the carb was replaced a year ago.

81 brat shocks
The rear shocks were easy to get, but I'm still looking for the front struts. If you find some, please let me know!!

gen 1 roll call
1978 Brat stock 1.6L 4 spd manual 96,453 miles I lost my pictures when my computer crashed. These are all I have for now. This is the telescope I built over the summer. It's the same color as the Brat and its name is Little Subaru (big Subaru is in Hawaii). Since it's the first one I made, it's a gen1, too :-p
