  1. 1990 Legacy L gotta luv watching the check engine light flash fun!! Code 22, improper knock sensor voltage. I got a new one. One mechanic told me that because it is a two wire device (not dependent on ground) I could just plug it in and not bolt it down. Is this correct? That did not seem to work. I spent two days doing the battery dance and playing with the diag connectors. I notice that the torque spec is quite specific at 16 ft/lb. Question: does the voltage change as the sensor is "squeezed"? Question 2: I remember a pic (can't find it again) of the "right" orientation. IIRC the manual calls for a 45 degree offset for the output wire. I plan on running it 45 degrees pointed toward the left fender, kinda pointing directly at the driver's seat. Any other opinions? I DO plan to put anti seize on the bolt threads, steel vs. aluminum etc. Thanx, Mike
  2. how do, im new to sooby world and i love it, the car itself is ace apart from a new noise thats just come about, i recently did an oil change as the oil was black as.... im unsure what oil was used so i decided to go with fuji industries recommendations, afetr putting in 5w/30 it tapped like mad so i drained and filled with 5w/40, just as bad so after speaking with a well known local mod shop he said go back to 3 qts of 5w/30 and 1 qts lucas oil, now the tap is unbearable, hoping you peeps could help me, as to what oil to use, what additives and so on. ive posted a vid on youtube for you to listen to ( ) just before 13 seconds you hear the tick stop to the normal boxer tick and then an increasing second tick, i know it sounds a bit vhriuvhr but i cant explain it really apart from an increasing tick....STOP..... increasing tick.....STOP............. THANKS IN ADVANCE AND MUCH APPRECIATED
  3. I just bought a used 1998 Legacy 2.2 5spd MT with ~169,000 miles on it. I'm looking for replacement knock and downstream O2 sensors for it. For the O2 Sensor, I am looking at the Bosch 15726. Is this a good sensor or should I go with the more expensive OEM part? For the knock sensor, I have not yet found a suitable part. Are there any non-OE parts or should I stick with OEM?
  4. I have a 1998 Outback wagon, 2.5L, 157K miles. My CEL is indicating P0325 so I ordered a replacement knock sensor. I removed the old one (housing is cracked), installed the new one, turned the key, and...just a click (the single starter click). The new sensor is oriented correctly -- it's not resting on the hump -- and is not overtightened. I removed the sensor, reinstalled the old one (the car did run with it, just had hesitation during acceleration), and...same problem...just a click. I measured both sensors on my multimeter using the "2000k" ohm setting. The old sensor reads 553 and the new one reads 552. What the heck could be wrong? There doesn't appear to be any corrosion on the engine where the sensor bolts down. I checked all nearby connectors and nothing is loose or disconnected. I even removed the negative battery cable for 10+ minutes to make sure everything is reset...no change. The car just won't start. Could I have blown a fuse? Which one? I'm really at a loss here...
