June 19, 201213 yr Author Been getting work down around the house the last week so not as much done this weekend. Lot's of rust due to mud and moisture getting kicked up behind the fuel filler pipe. July 13, 201213 yr Author Typical Ak summer... Have to stop one project (the Brat) to work on others (2 fishing trips, installing a super charger on my brother's truck, working on my boss's cabin... Etc) but I started on it again tonight and will be on most everyday for the foreseeable future. Pics to come this weekend. Here's some eye candy to hold you over... July 21, 201213 yr Author Torn apart ready for prep. Por15 and welding in the wheel well... tough to make smooth welds it's pretty in close quarters. 27 years of mud and gravel required extra cutting. Rebuilding the inside wheel well before I can put on the outside sheet metal later this weekend. Edited July 21, 201213 yr by tundrabrat
July 31, 201213 yr Author Finally done welding the wheel well... there was a lot to rebuild. Fitting a panel... Putty has to wait til this weekend whe I get back from trip to lower 48...
August 13, 201213 yr I may have to go this route on mine. Yours turned out nicely! What are you using to grind down the welds. I am using a flapper disc, but it is trick to blend the welds without taking too much off.

I use a cutting wheel on a grinder to get the weld down... then I use a grinding wheel to smooth it out and blend. If you don't have a grinder I recommend purchasing one... makes life waaaaaay easier.

August 23, 201213 yr Author Found some rust on the frame in the wheel well so I have been grinding/cutting that out. Will be treating it tonight and weld it up tomorrow. Picking up more 18g today for the rockers, going to have the shop put in a few of the more difficult bends to save me a little time. Also picking up the final few engine bits to do the build. Hope to have the rockers in this weekend... more pics to come over the next few days.

August 28, 201213 yr Author Passenger side rocker Lots of rust and dirt... Volcanic ash and snow are a bad combo. Rust cut out... needed to rebuild the bottom of the rail Test fitting for shape... Rail fixed and treated... Welded in... Door's next... ...and this is where I set myself on fire... save your jokes (:

August 30, 201213 yr Author Thanks Jerry... had the paint guy over tonight to give me a little direction... working on having it ready for paint by mid September.
September 5, 201213 yr Author Passenger side rocker done... had to do a little re-shaping Starting on driver side tomorrow... Goal is to have the rockers done by Friday, the doors by the end of the weekend, pull the engine and have the hood and front clip finished by mid next week and have it ready for paint (putty and sanded) by 9/23. September 8, 201213 yr You're lucky you had any rockers left at all, I didn't have enough left of them to patch! Your repairs are look great, can't wait to see this together
