Need Advice About My Subaru Legacy

Recommended Posts

tHello everyone.

First off, I own a 2004 Subaru Legacy. This car’s been so great to me and overall I can’t complain about it, considering that it has generally been problem free for the most part. But enough about my car. The reason I’ve come here is that I’ve got a small problem and I need some advice on what to do. Just yesterday, my wife (she is 71 years old, a great woman) was driving through a residential area (she says she was driving at around 20 MPH) when a driver parallel parked on the side of the street suddenly opened their driver side door. Their door collided with the passenger side mirror of my car and completely damaged it.

To be honest I haven’t done any online shopping thus far but have heard that one can find great deals ordering products from the internet. I’ve also heard that there exist many website that appear to be legitimate but are actually fraudulent scams. I’d like to purchase a replacement mirror online, but I can’t discern between legitimate and fake websites. I found two sites but now need to know, has anyone purchased from either of the following websites and can testify that they are a legitimate business? The OEM numbers of the parts on the sites match the part I need. Thank you.

Welcome to the USMB.

Try posting here in the "parts wanted" section.

A used OEM mirror is usually the best bet with quality/price especially if someone has the correct color.

If you replace one aftermarket and the car is nice often they won't match and that bothers me!

So if I HAVE to go aftermarket I buy both.

One way to check on a website is to search google for that website name +reviews

That will often give you some feedback on the experience of others from that website. Another good thing to do is to look for the About Us link (usually in small print on the bottom or top of the page. That should tell you about where the company is, an address, phone number. If any of that is missing or not clear, I usually stay away.

While I have not used either of those sites, they look legitimate to me. Use a credit card to purchase the items and if all else fails you should be able to dispute the charge with your credit card company (30-60 days max from transaction).

A mirror from an online Subaru dealer is $139 but will still need to be painted to match your car paint. May be cheaper to buy two aftermarket units and leave them black to match like davebugs suggests.

you could try ebay. a salvage part would be significantly cheaper than a new replacement. a salvage original part may be higher quality than a new aftermarket unit.

since you are here, you should post in the parts wanted section, and cruise the parts for sale thread.

And the winner is General disorder with http://www.car-part.com :clap: that late model of car is not dealt with that much here, and I have frequently bought parts from car-part. its a goldmine for those yards listed, to sell via internet therefore are scruplous in their dealings, the site is user friendly nearly all have 800 numbers to close the deal. http://www.car-part.com <mouse click on link

by the way, not that it matters, aren't you really 72 and not 27 ? welcome to the site!
