May 4, 201213 yr Hello all, been subaru-less for going on 5 years now, moved a few times and found myself in NW AZ. Picking this up tomorrow for a sum I will not disclose to avoid enragement and jealousy. 1979 1/2 (I think...) GL wagon. FWD, 1600 manual. Needs a new front seat, tune up and new rubber. But the best? It was an AZ car since new and NO RUST. What seats interchange with these?
May 4, 201213 yr Ford escort seats are an easy swap. It was easily one of the best things I've done with my wagon. I used front seats from a `97 escort wagon, would have liked some from a GT, but couldn't find ones that would match. use your stock ea81 seat rails, and oval out the rear holes about an 1/8 inch. Then simply install them on to the escort seats. They fit great and are way more supportive than the worn stockers.
May 5, 201213 yr Author Thanks! Drove it today, here's the good, bad and ugly. Good: 122K miles Rides straight as an arrow, no vibes:banana: 70MPH is no problem and gets there surprisingly quickly. Runs pretty decently for a car that sat for 2 yrs with no fuel in it. Well, the Bad. 1. cannot find 3rd. It's there, and works, but shifter feels like a chopstick in a bowl of water. Any way to adjust the linkage? 2. Suction AC hose is broken at compressor. Any chance of finding a replacement or am I going one-off? Annnnd, the Ugly. 1.Most plastic parts in the interior are crumbling to the touch...Dash vents are now a few holes:banghead: they literally blew out when I turned the fan on. 2.Seats are not much better.
May 12, 201213 yr Author Might as well turn this into a resto/rebuild thread. Today, cleared 30 years of goop out of the squirters, Ft/R, got rear wiper working(no real need, it rains 3X a year here), Fixed Funky electric fan setup P/O had on it. Scotchbrited what was left of the "paint" in prep for Priming this week. No worry about Rust...It was 7% humidity today. Also ordered the hi-side hose I needed from http://www.coolhose.com for a really cheap price. Hopefully I can have AC by end of next week...when it's supposed to be in the 100's. Seems to be running better and better the more I drive it..Seafoam in tank is doing it's job cleaning jets. Plans are: repaint Red. Wife's car, she wants red. Figure out some stereo option so she can get more than God'N Country. Drive the wheels off it. Stay tuned.

May 12, 201213 yr Shifter slop is a pretty easy fix. Run a search on it in here, there's plenty of info. Let me know if you can't find the info, I can explain how to fix it with a hacksaw, a drill, a bolt, a nut and two locking washers. zzz
