April 1, 200422 yr Hi I was doing a spark plug change, and that damned aircleaner intake pointing directly into the upper heater hose has been bugging me ever since I got this '84 Ozified wagon. With a lifted wagon, the body goes up and the engine doesn't. The air intake was so close to the hose it was rubbing, and I held it back with a ziptie. I saw a post about this, and the postee chopped the intake off just behind the heat valve, so I did too. MUCH more power. Spins up very quickly. Seems like more mileage, I am getting about 300 miles before the light goes on. And it can pull 4th a lot more often. Still need a weber, but hey! David
April 1, 200422 yr what do you mean, is this car carb, SPFI/MPFI what does this mean sawzalling the air cleaner, if its car can i get pictures i wanna know how to get more power.
April 1, 200422 yr Author It is a carbed wagon. If your Subie is not lifted, you will not have so much of a problem, also, if you need to resmog yearly, this is not an option, unless you get another aircleaner from the salvage yards. Here is a photo. It will pull third around corners it would not do before.
April 2, 200422 yr also if you can get it done , degut the big fat cat ,if it is a turbo , i run acell coil , ngk plugs, 8mm wires, k-n filter, air box cut out , improved hp alot, mpg is 22 city , set timing at 20 , it is a/t full time 4wd wagon
April 2, 200422 yr Yeh I am thinking of doing that but cutting it down as far as possible. Mine is a N/A brumby with a 2 inch exhuast. I think that is larger than stock!?!?
April 2, 200422 yr Author Already have the hot accell coil, good wires, ngk split electrode plugs, and a K&N filter. might do the cat modification, but it is a pain to get to, and I like reducing smog as much as I can, balancing that against power is the hard part.
April 2, 200422 yr modifications with the sawzall are FUN been doing quite a few with my BFH and die grinder w/ cut off wheel! gottta make room for the 30x10.5s
