The fresh engine crane! Engine stand is still in its box...need to put it together...

And...the engine, tired and worn out, ready to be worked on out of there.

More to come!

Ok, more work done. Look at the table!

Here is the 1-3 side. Looks like blowby for sure on the one on the right....looks like the other one was ready to give up.

Looks like the Mobil 1 Synthetic did its job in keeping the engine clean!

The 2-4 side. Looks pretty normal to me.

Looks like tuesday will be the next time I can really mess with it...start cleaning up the turbo block and heads...and slap it together.

  • Author

Yes. The block had about 80k-100K miles on it, and then as a last minute thing, just the get the car on the road, i slapped that one under all the factory turbo stuff. Lasted 23k miles before cyl #1 started to breakdown...evidently the rings failed or something...and i drove it HARD everyday. I would do it again with the other block I have, its go about 50K-60K miles on it, and it was in better condition overall. But as a temp engine, for some experimental testing purposes...a stock turbo block is going in.

Thanks for the pictures this is really fun to look at.

Its actually a Mileage Plus cabinet (The cheaper brand of NAPA electrical stuffs) and I happend to have a pair of the SWRT Vinyls laying around...and i really thought it was gay using the NAPA stickers, and someone else wanted the NAPA stuff...so the color is almost dead on...voila!

We actually have one cabinet in stock right now. Its $75 (at least thats the price i paid, might be a little more now). Want me to ship it to you? ;)

i think i saw a small intercooler over in the corner under the table :)

Yep...it's a stock top-mount intercooler from an 02+ WRX. I've got one sitting at home waiting to be installed in my RX as well (as soon as I get the darn thing running again...lol)! :D

no thanks Will, right now I'm jobless (thou I think I'm going to have to get one one day :) ((the cabinet)) )
