October 29, 201312 yr Author Thanks! Looking back it was a crazy amount of work... I couldn't image doing it again. But I'm really glad I did. And I hope I can do it again, cause I just got an 84 Brat that needs almost as much love!
November 2, 201312 yr Author Here's a few from the engine swap. Making my first EA-EJ adapter plate: My prototype was 1/2" aluminum, hand cut with a jigsaw. The plates I later put into production were CNC cut steel. Flywheel was welded up and redrilled. EJ22 cleaned up a bit. Stripped harness: All the wiring I stripped off the harness:
November 4, 201312 yr Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to share this photos. As we all know, the photo process from camera to website, can be rather tedious.
November 4, 201312 yr Author Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to share this photos. As we all know, the photo process from camera to website, can be rather tedious. No prob! Hopefully providing some inspiration for others with their builds. I know seeing a good build thread gets me pumped for my own projects and gets me coming up with all kinds of ideas. Still got a few more to share, too.
November 28, 201312 yr Author Thought I would do a couple posts on some of the detail mods I did. First was correcting the speedometer. I scanned the stock speedo face and rebuilt it adjusting for the larger tire size I would be running. I work as a graphic designer, so recreating the speedo face on the computer was easy to do. I printed it on heavy stock and then affixed it with double-sided tape to a piece of plastic I cut to size. While I was at it I upped the redline on the tach for the EJ22 I was dropping in. This was an early test with the lights on. I think I reprinted them to match the stock orange color a little better soon after. Overall, this was one of my favorite mods on the build.
November 29, 201312 yr You wouldn't still happen to have the files for those would you? Killer mod for sure.
November 30, 201312 yr Author You wouldn't still happen to have the files for those would you? Killer mod for sure. I'll see if I can dig them up and make them available. Just be careful with your gauges if you try the mod. The needles don't like to come on and off too many times.
January 3, 201412 yr Author You wouldn't still happen to have the files for those would you? Killer mod for sure. I've been looking... but still haven't found the exact files for the speedo and tach. I usually don't throw anything away, I still have one or two places to look...
January 3, 201412 yr Wow, that is an awesome build, would love to do something very similar with my brat.

Don't think I had a trick to it... just chipped it off with a big screwdriver and hammer. Might have buzzed it down with a wire wheel to get the little stuck on bits after. I had a lot more free time in those days. No experience with digi-dashes myself...
January 7, 201412 yr Marcus.. Dry ice is the quick way. Freeze it then chip it out with hammer and chisel. 88Hatch... Very nice build/resto. Nicest I've seen in a long time. Love the hatch. Edited January 9, 201412 yr by NorthCoast
January 9, 201412 yr I too am a designer and have done hundreds of custom gauges back in my day for all the ricers. I love how you kept your's stock looking. Function over form.
January 13, 201412 yr Awesome, I'm tempted to yank some gauges out of a PT cruiser or intrepid very cool retro look. This has me wanting to get on my hatch, keep up the good work.
