99 OBW front disk brakes slide pin lube

Featured Replies

I need to replace the pads, which I have done several times in the last 10 years. Only now realize that lubing the slide pins with ant-sieze isn't a very good lube. I have had the slide pins freeze up.

Would white lithium grease be a better lube, or are there other lubes that would be better??

Thanks for any advise.

There is a grease made for disc brakes.

Comes in a jar with a brush, Permatex IIRC.

O.

I've used the permatex green stuff for years and haven't had any problem with it.

Antiseize works but it dries up so you gotta use a ton of it.

Be sure to clean all of the old stuff out and make sure there is no rust on the pins.

I use Sta-Lube synthetic brake and caliper grease. It's designed for exactly this application. It's also for drum brake lube points which will be good if you have to do parking brakes. You can get it in a toothepaste sized tube for a couple bucks at napa.

yeah, there's enough feedback on the permatex green that I might avoid it - or limit it to areas without the chance for rubber contact.

the purple cermaic is 'probably' OK for everything.

MANY people prefer syl-glide it seems.

I've had the same tub of high temp grease I've had for pretty much when I started working on cars. Its a plain Jane multi-purpose high temp grease. I've tried enough types of the brake slide pin grease to know I don't like them much, they seem too sticky IMHO. My multipurpose grease has never let me down yet.

Permatex green went in the trash can. That stuff was strangely sticky for something meant to promote sliding. I cleaned it all out and use the Valvoline high temp syn grease I had.
