15" Peugeot 505 Wheels - Are They Desirable?

Featured Replies

Just found this past weekend a set of (4) 15" Peugeot wheels off of a 1986 505.

Question is:

Are these wheels desirable? Should I keep them? Should I sell them? Do you want them?

Any insight to these is appreciated.

Yes. Folks here will buy them since they are the only other stock option for the 4x140 bolt pattern. If you aren't using them, post them for sale in the classifieds here. Someone is itching to have them and put them to use I'm sure.

First verify the wheels are indeed 15" and not metric. The tire size will give you the answer.

Yes if metric, they are boat anchors, if needs tires tires are not sold anymore in states unless you wanna spend 1K :( center caps are worth some $

Those look exactly like the metric ones I bought. Mine came with new unused tires (well, new in the 80's), Michelin Gravel Rally tires and 2 spares. If you don't have metric tires, its tough to find any to purchase. It was a gamble getting them.

What are metric tyres? I've never heard of them and I live in a country which uses metric. All of our tyres come in rim diameter & width in inches...

Tyre width is still listed in mm however, but that shouldn't make too much difference

That exact style wheel was available in a 390mm, and 15" diameter. Which are close, but not the same.

205/60r15. A quick stop at Les Schwab and they have 4 different tires in stock for just that width. So looks like they are good to go.

Cant be bothered to upload a pic, so linking to my FB.

(Car in off-road elevation)

I do have a question on the matter though, a wheel fell off efter just a few hour of driving! (Albeit on very rough roads) (and all went well, I found 2 nuts, with some help, got out of the snow-bank without damages to anything but my pride, and got home with a couple of tightening stops.)
Should one use a special Peugeut-nuts to these rims?

YES. The Pug wheels use a 45* conical seat on the lug nuts, whereas almost all others are a 60* conical, which gives you virtually zero contact patch.

Pug nuts are getting very hard to find, I think someone made some awhile back, otherwise ball seat lug nuts can be used.

The hole seemed to have an deep even taper, rather like it needs 75 degrees nuts (it also had a lot of marks from wheelnuts in the channel...)

But Thanks!
