February 24, 201610 yr so i cant figure out this knock/clack i got going. anybody got a spare ea82 lying around they would part with for a decent price? in the portland and surrounding areas?
February 25, 201610 yr Lifter tick? Try some seafoam on the oil. About 1/4 bottle drive 50 miles and change oil. 8 bucks it may be worth a shot.
February 25, 201610 yr Since this thread is a Continuation of ~► This, I kindly suggest you to follow our advice first, and drain that ATF+Oil mixture, change the filter and pour fresh 20W~50 oil on your subie's EA82 engine, prior to spend money on another engine, because maybe that's all that it needs... Kind Regards.
February 25, 201610 yr I can only recommend trying to find the source of the knock. You mentioned a loose timing belt in your other post. Here's a similar video with a similar noise caused by a bad timing belt tensioner. The comments on Youtube for this video may be helpful to your problem. To find more information search this forum and google for "ea82 engine knock". Edited February 26, 201610 yr by Dee2
February 25, 201610 yr diagnose the noise. another 25+ year old motor isn't likely to be show room quiet either. www.car-part.com i've bought EA82's on ebay Edited February 25, 201610 yr by grossgary
February 25, 201610 yr Drive her till she blows is my vote. Just make sure you have AAA for a tow.Comb craigs list, there seems to be tons of EA82 Subaurs for cheap.
February 26, 201610 yr Change the oil, bang on it with a hammer, I dunno it's an ea82 it'll probably be fine
February 26, 201610 yr If it ends up blowing I've got one... It occasionally gets lifter tick when its really cold. In Vancouver BC.
February 28, 201610 yr Mechanic's stethescope is your friend. If you get knock at the head, lifter tick. It will be annoying, but not harmful. searching tick of death (tod) you should find some cures If its in the block, rod knock. Still annoying, but driveable till it lets go. Could be a day, week, or a year
