what is that thing?(see attached) I found it on top of my stereo when I had it out(rear speakers wern't working. not wired :( ) My sisters' 87's also have it. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Dave

That appears to be the "ding dong box", i.e. the controller for the door chime. Try leaving the key in the ignition and opening the door with it unplugged and the bell won't go off. Far as I know that's all it does.

Is that where it is? I know what I'm doing this weekend. :brow:

so THATS what it is. Thanks for inlighting us ;)

I removed my door bell along time ago. So it's a little fuzzy but mine didn't look like that. It only had two wire coming out of it. The one thing i do remember clearly is the plug was pink. This is from a loyale so I'm sure yours could be different.

Observation; I don't see the ding dong part in that box, No bell , no speaker , or buzzer ? It would be a bummer to remove something you need. My brother dismantaled his dash in his Ford truck and had a simular looking box left over. It ended up running his windshield wipers.

I would investigate further before I would take out any electronic devices. better safe than sorry.

In a Loyale it may well be different. In my 87 wagon it looked just like that and was right next to the stereo. When I unplugged it the door chime immediately stopped working, and came back on when I plugged it back in.

I agree that that is the ding dong box. I unplugged it a long time ago to make room for a cd player and of course to get rid of the annoyance ;) . Everything else on the car still works without it. Thats interesting that there is no bell or buzzered inside it. I wonder how it works. Maybe you can plug it back in and search for where the sound is coming from.

On EA81's there's a bell behind the glove box.... just thought I would toss that out there for completeness - in case someone were searching for how to disable it... :-p
