swap EA82 rear crossmember into brat?

Featured Replies

I've been thinking about putting EA82 rear control arms in the brat, so i can have a sway bar.

I've also been interested in rear coilovers but I understand that (especially in a brat) they can be a bit much when coupled with the torsion bars.

To deal with the rear coilovers, I'm interested in:

removing the torsion bars - are they necessary if coilovers are installed?

-OR-

swapping in an EA82 rear crossmember - I'm sure it would have to be narrowed; would it then be a matter of putting EA81 brackets on it?

I think Lumpycam put EA82 rear under his Gen I Brat...

I'll send him a PM and report back here then *salute*

are there some EA81 models that didn't come with torsion bars at all? it would be far easier to swap EA81 xmembers with each other instead of wrangling an EA82 xmember in there...

I've repositioned the spring perches on solid axles so they'd fit under a different model vehicle than what the axle came out of. Fairly simple to do, just have to get the pinion angle right.

So, I wonder if one could carefully cut the mount points off from the EA-82 suspension, then center the unit under the car, and re-weld the mout points where they need to be. This would give you a slightly wider track on the rear which would be a good thing on a lifted vehicle.

Am I way out in left field on this????

I have pics of a black brat with a rear swaybar some where. Not Kern's though.
