performance for a 87 wagon

Featured Replies

now i know the 87 gl wagon doesnt have the most power but i need some more!

i was wondering what little things i can do to make go or any major beside engine transplats?

can i take a turbo off an other subaru and slap it on mine?

No only the stock turbo mounts right up, with some $$$ u could slap on an old tdo4, or pretty much anything else .

There's alot to deal with if you want to make real power. If you have less than $2000 kickin around then I'd stick with the basic mods that can be found looking around on the older threads. Intercooler, higher boost, air box mod or good filter, large exhaust with high flow header/DP, better ignition, and etc. might give you about +/- 30 - 60 hp... with a fresh block. The only Ea82t pushin hp over 200 I've heard of is in Australia and he's usually on Ausubaru.com and sometimes this board.

Is your car a turbo already?

If not, theres a lot more involved than just 'slapping it on'.

It won't just bolt up.. mostly because on a nonturbo motor, theres nothing to bolt it on to..

A little more info on the car would be helpful in determining the best way to help you.

Wait a day or two and take a look at Snowman's wagon when he gets back in town. That'll give you some options. Welcome to the board. Interested in Subaru Klub of Alaska?

I'm assuming you have a non-turbo gl wagon. If so, go for a 2" custom cat back exhaust and a freer flowing intake. If funds are still available, ask around this board to see if you can get a lighter weight crank pulley for quicker acceleration. Other than this, things'll start to get expensive.

I had an '88 GL-10 Turbo wagon for many years and it seemed to have enough power to get around the hills in Alaska. If you really want the extra power then I would think about selling yours and looking for a turbo model. I would guess that it may be the least expensive way to go also. The turbo equipped engine has less compression than a standard engine along with a different ECU and other things. If you can afford a newer style Outback, it will even have more power.

welcome to the board... hit me up if you ever make it up to fairbanks
