January 30, 200521 yr I'm just curious as to what the JYs up in the great NW charge for random parts. Around here I think the JYs are smoking antifreeze or something as rates for Subaru parts is out of this world. $90 driveshaft, 4wd ea82 $120 rear diff assy (pumpkin only) ea82 $650 EJ22 engine, untested, unknown no harness. $40 EA alternator $25 per axle per side Its like gah. Its bad enough the only Subies in the junkyards here are Loyales and up, but the prices are just plain stupid. I've been wanting to pick up a spare rear end.. so I can weld it up for teh Brat, but there is no way I will pay $120 for one. Anybody wanna tell me how cheap the common parts are up thataways so I dont feel like I'm stupid for passing these prices up?
January 30, 200521 yr umm I can get some of those parts for ya for just the cost of shipping plus a little extra for my time:D I have access to the driveshaft, rear-end, possibly and alternator and possibly axles as well... lemme know if I can help:D Might even be a little cheaper then the j/ys in the PNW
January 30, 200521 yr most of that's about what the rates are in the local JY here. A little bit cheaper on some stuff ($35 for an alternator). they also charge $25 for hubs. doesn't seem too bad when you compare to new prices, if you can even get it new, but it would be nice if they were cheaper
January 30, 200521 yr looks about right to me, though you can get cheaper if you shop around or keep your eyes open on ebay, the pull it yourself yards (that's where the cheap parts come from) and the boards here. driveshaft and diff seem a little high, they should go for 75.00. you can always offer less, they'll just say no or be glad to finally sell a soob part.
January 30, 200521 yr it's odd that junkyards and parts suppliers alike don't understand the fact that part of the attraction to subarus is the price... and if they keep charging insane prices for parts, well, PEOPLE WILL GO ELSEWHERE.........
January 30, 200521 yr I second operose on the price issues. Soobs are cheap cars for parts, I'll bet you that the junker paid less than $200 for all the cars with the parts you listed. Go elsewhere. There are many junkyards in the world, find a U-pull at a decent price and you will be set. $650 for an unknown/untested engine is riddiculous. I have to drive 3+ hrs, but the guy practically gives me the parts for free, so it is well worth my time and the drive.
January 31, 200521 yr Author Down here in Flarda I dont have the joy of 15 PAP yards with Subies of all years littering the grounds. Theres a single EA81 2wd wagon that I know of in one yard. Other than that, the Loyale and early Legacy's are all that exist. Thats kinda why I asked the question. I feel these prices are crazy stupid. I just dont have many other options available to me. Oh yeah.. $90 is what I was quoted today for 4x rear disc assembly, although its unlikely I could find a suitable set. I've read numerous threads of people getting them for <$50 or so. I just didnt know if these are actually near the norm, or I'm right in my assumption that the yard owners really are pricks. I know they usually are, which is why I ask for prices before I start looking/pulling parts off. Saves me some time.
January 31, 200521 yr Those prices are silly. What do they think they have there? There aint gold or platinum in those parts Here is what I would pay at my local yard. DRIVE SHAFT FRT $13.00 DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER, CAR $26.00 DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER, TRUCK $46.00 ENGINE ASSEMBLY $150.00 (does not inlcude starter, MAF, or alternator) AXLE SHAFT FWD (CORE) $10.00 The other junkyard I go to is stricly a haggeling process. You bring in what you pulled and let the games begin! They offer, you counter, they counter, you counter, we settle, and its a done deal

January 31, 200521 yr there's only 1 place you can pull your own where I live (that has soobies)... 350 engine 275 trans 150 rear end 25 disty 50 door 20 seat 25 tail lights 15 marker lights 25 alt, PS pump 10 any brackets 50 radiator 15 steel wheel/tire combo 25 alloys wheel 125 RX body kit w/grill (no wing) the more you bring up at the same time, the more they'll work on the price with you.... otherwise, there area few yards you can get a ea82 from that they pull. $500... so any time I can get a parts car that runs for $250 I do it !!!!!
February 3, 200521 yr $40 for each ea82 gl headlight and front corner light $20 ea81 2wd front axle $75 ea82 dr trans "pocket parts"
