are all turbos LSD's??

Featured Replies

are all turbo wagons rear LSD's? the ratio is 3.70 if that makes any difference.

nope. mine isn't. take a look at the tag on the diff and it will have LSD on it if it is.

Ditto. My '87 turbo is non-lsd.

I had one with and one without. I should kept the LSD coz now I can't find one. :banghead:

I thought only RX's had LSDs. Am i wrong?

Yes, but not completely. LSD was optional equipment on the EA82T models but I'm not sure when that started. In '89 I believe it became standard on the EA82T models. RX models always came with the LSD.

Yes, but not completely, in 89 they were standard on RXs and GL-10 Full Time 4WD Turbos with manual trannys.

Ditto. Only standard on RX's and that 89 GL-10 turbo FT4WD wagon. Otherwise...optional, but 90% of the turbo stuff out there is open diff.

Listen to what the doc says

"RXs and GL-10 Full Time 4WD Turbos with manual trannys."

I listened to what Will said and got burned.

The 89 GL-10 turbo automatic (i.e. 4EAT) FT4WD do not have it as standard equip..

Is that the same 4EAT used in Legacy and Probe GTs ?

then I guess my RX is special since it had the 4EAT and the LSD in the rear.... or is it ALL RXs no matter tranny in '89?

Caboob

no your RX is not special

like Doc and Will say ALL RX's.

Maybe we should spell this out in plain terms.

The only other car (not "sports car") in the Subaru line up

of this vintage that had

the rear limited slip differential

as standard equipment

was the

89 GL-10 turbo with the single range 5 speed manual transmission with full time four wheel drive

it also had an electrically (vacuum controlled) lockable center differential..

Sounds like a great vehicle for you north state band grips

that have to transport the equipment to and fro gigs.

We need the XT crowd to fill in the XT6 line.

There was rumor of a XT6 manual tranny w/LSD

but I do not know if the LSD was standard.

It had the 3.9 vs the 3.7 RAR (Rear Axle Ratio)

The XT6 FSM from 91 simply says

"The LSD is installed on the rear differential of four wheel drive vehicles"

As far as the 4EAT goes,

it was and still is used in the Legacy line

although it has seen many refinements.

as for the Probe, maybe the Ford boys can answer this.

Since an automatic tranny was only available in a RX in 89, it is possible that they got the LSD since all RXs had them and the rear ratio for autos is 3.70.

On the XT6 possible 3.90 LSD, someone here on the board posted a part number and a link where you could look up that part number. I checked that part number against my Subrau parts book (1985 to 1990), the parts book only showed it as a good number for a LSD rear diff, it did not give a ratio. I sent an e-mail to the dealer who had the web site listed in the post to confirm the information that they listed, I never got a reply from them.

I dont care what it came on standard; I check every single one I find for an LSD. Just peek under the skirt and find out if its a boy or a girl :drunk:

Same for me, it just takes a few seconds.

i have a 90 xt6 with full time 5speed and lsd, i had a 88 xt4 with single range and lsd, a 89 gl-10 with 4eat and lsd and a 89 gl-10 with single range and lsd, both rxs i have had had the lsd, but every other subaru i have delt with has not and thats at least 100

Can you take a picture of the metcal (label) on the back of the rear diff and send it to me at corkysrocks@isomedia.com .
