May 2, 200520 yr so how hard is it to build one to handle a tiny like 3x4 or so utility trailer and sincei have not bothered to look yet where are the best points to bolt it sub frame? rear bumper mounts?
May 2, 200520 yr 85-87 ea82t I dont know if building one is cost effective right now. If you want to buy one new or used check out those Drawtite's they looked pretty cheap.

I would like to hear how much you can build it for. The last hitch I saw for a 94 Legacy was $50. I can't get metal that cheap. Would love to be proven wrong. Labor and material, whats it going to cost you?
May 2, 200520 yr well if you buy one its been tested and designed properly. im not sure id trust something as important as that to home shop stuff. my sister was in accident and someone died because someone jury rigged a hitch like that. please consider the others on the road safety.
May 2, 200520 yr Author umm i already have all the material plus i plane on a receiver hitch type of thing .. so i figure if i can put a 5-10 foot long piece of box steel in it then jack up the front of my s-10 and put the tire on the end of the bar and let the jack down.. and the weioght of the s-10+ the leverage provided by a 5-10 foot bar.. if nothing breaks that i built.. i am gonna guess a 80 lb trailer.. should be no problem .. but i could be wrong so.. eh and very sorry for your sister.. but it was also nothing that i built part of the reason i asked for suggestions/ info to prevent things like that guess my next idea i will try and refrain from asking for suggestions or something .. past my bedtime night night
May 2, 200520 yr i've got two for the XT6. one i had made and the other is on one of the XT6's i got for parts. fairly straight forward. a metal plate welded to a receiver, doesn't get much simpler than that. bolt it to the car and you're done.

May 3, 200520 yr I had a buddy fab one up for my Brat for $120 ($80metal+40labor). He did such a good job of it the weight it can handle is more than what the Brat is able to easily move. I went with his offer as the bolt on receiver for my Bronco ran me $150.. it seemed fair. Granted, its not an EA82, but its another price to add to the list to get an idea.

May 3, 200520 yr I used an old hitch from another vehicle and mounted it to the underside of the rear deck of my Hatch and then to the bumper. Worked great towing a sail boat. I did end up reinforcing the bumper mounts. Good Luck. Glenn 82 SubaruHummer 01 Forester

Laying on my back, starting with 064, panning from the passenger side to the drivers side, which is 068. 069 is there to show the minimal departure angle loss... I had Hop build the hitch to be inline with the tailpipe. The upper supports are 4" wide flat steel, simply welded onto the framerails under the bed. Crossbeam suport is 2" box steel, cut to width of the outer framerails. As you can see in 065, in the middle of the crossbeam is the actual receiver. 2" box steel, simply welded up at the end, with a 2" piece of channel steel welded in front as extra bracing. Then, just slap a couple holes in the end of the channel for the hitch pin, and call it a day. As a bonus, he took a piece of flat steel, cut two holes, heated it up and bent it down, and stuck it underneath the receiver to use as safety chain attachment points. Unless you crawl underneath to inspect it, it looks like a pre-made deal. Its successfully pulled 3700# when I had to pick up my Altima after my sister ran it out of gas. My Bronco was down, and I had no other alternative to get it home. 2900# for the car, and 770# for the race trailer. I wouldnt dare pull that much with a homemade hitch, but I had no other choice.. but it took it just fine. So, I'd say this design could easily pull the small utility trailer you've got oddcomp.
