Digi-Dash Question.

Is the digital dash in an 86 turbo gl a different color than the one in an 87 turbo? Will they switch out easily?

As rob said, the 86 is orange and the 87+ is green. I'm sure you could change them, but be prepared with FSMs for both cars. You will have some rewiring to do.

Duh! I should have known that. What a bonehead!!!

do the bulbs in the dash just have colored cover on them? just change the covers or bulb color?

They are not lit with bulbs, they are inert gas filled "tube" deals - not unlike a neon sign in a way. The color is dictated by the type of gas they are filled with.

I tried to change the color by putting a tinted film over it, but it didn't change the color much and made the dash hard to read in daylight. Going to swap it with an analogue from an 85 - 86 (when I find one) as I like the orange backlight better than the 87 - 90 green. Here are some wiring diagrams I found, compliments of Subi81. If you decide to do the same type of dash swap, you must change a few sensors.

PS. I used to be Froggymike, but I'm killing off the moniker. Froggymike is no more. Long live Sonicfrog!

Has anyone just completely removed the digidash, cut a piece of metal the right size, and slap some analog gauges on? I think that'd be freaking sweet.
