Alternator is dying.

Check the belt to make sure its good, if its not the belt it maybe time to carry a spare alt.

I second that notion, more than likely the Alt is dying.

altenator is dying ... easier to replace it.

sorry to hijack but, how long should the oil and alt dummy lights stay on after starting the car? like a second?

Yes, a second or two. Some of the warning lights are in the alternator's exciter circuit so when the alternator is not working correctly these lights turn on.
