the person that disrespects me the most loves dodge and says that subaru is a "piece of crap" that all subarus belong in a junk yard you get the point.

KEEP THE SUBARU!!! I used to get disrespected because of my '88 GL-10. But I love the thing. It fits me like a glove. When I got it, it was like the feeling you get when you own your first car, all over again. The previous Dodge vehicles that I owned should have both probably been in the junkyard('96 Neon & '00 Stratus SE). But for some reason I wouldn't give up on them. I have never had so many problems out of a car as I did with Dodge. Shoot, even Dodge's supercar(Neon SRT4) has problems. The sad thing is, this is coming from a used to be diehard Dodge fan. I would still like to get another '96 Neon single cam(can't get them outta my blood), but I would never get rid of my Subarus. They are like close friends. You always want them to stay in your life. As I said, don't get rid of the Subie!!!

Keep the Subie. Who cares what other people think. I get a hard time about my Loyale quite a bit, but than I think, at least its paid for, cheap to insure, gets good mpg, its 4wd and looks like hell, so it don't matter if I get door dings. Plus, alot of folks that have knocked my Subaru take one ride, and than I hear "If you ever want to sell it, let me know!" People have fallen in love with my little roo, hell, even my ex girl friend liked driving it more than here blazer, and now she is in the market for an old roo.

Go to an Impound auction with a couple hundred dollars and pick yourself another car... get it and drive it fix up your subie...

Thats my advice, right now I'm looking for a truck, to haul and a awd vehicle to go in the snow... My XT is fun but I wan't more... My friends had no respect when I bought my XT because it didn't run and until I let them drive it a few miles then they all want one.

A couple of months ago, I let my Rare Form drummer (that's my San Diego band - I live in Fresno 348 mi away) drive me to our guitarist's house after the Halloween gig. OK. He HAD to drive me because I was in no condition to do so myself. But I've driven him home on numerous occations so I figure it was payback. Well, this week-end, at the $2000 Xmas Party gig at Loew's Coronado (I love saying that) he complimented me on how well the car drove. That compliment is a greater reward than I could ever get from a car that I didn't bring back from certain death.

  • 1 year later...

Sorry to be digging up the dead, but this thread is inspiring. I have just recently fallen prey to a 99 cherokee. The thing sucks, and not just gas! I feel un- sure footed all the time. I can't even imagine how squirrly it will be in the snow and ice. I got it cuz the soob is so border line towing my bigger boat. It pulls it ok, but I was scared of long steep boat ramps.

I gotta say, especially after reading these 7 pages, I'm glad the Loyale is still in my driveway. I don't quite know its fate yet, but my better half (Wife in 2 weeks:banana: ) says I should keep it.... Does she mean keep it AND the cherokee? Who knows, but I really miss driving it and its only been a week! Everyone warned me about this, guess I was just trying to fool myself! At $50 a tank for the jeep (Just Empty Every Pocket) and it only gets 300 miles out of it! I put about $28 in the Loyale and go for about 380 miles! WTF was I thinking?

Thanks to everyone who responded to Buddys post, it has re- opened my eyes to the reality of the Soob. Inexpensive, and built to stay that way!:headbang:

Hey hey hey... I had a '95 Escort... One of the best 90's Ford cars IMO. Pretty reliable as long as you don't overheat it... many many Escort's of that generation are used as county fleet vehicles out here... sold at auctions with 250-300K on them and they still run good...

But I don't have an Escort no more, and I got me an '86 GL coupe... :headbang::headbang: Regardless of what the critics say, I would'nt trade her for the world, as I've put a lot of blood, sweat, tears and money into her and she should last me another 100K at least. (except maybe the 3AT :-\)

Oh yeah, no car payment and high insurance for me!

I have owned a few different cars from different makers. AMC, Toyota, Suzuki, Opel, Mazda, and Olds. They were alright. The best were the Toyota, and the Suzuki. The Toy was good because it was my first new car. The Suzuki was good because it was 4WD, and I really needed it while stationed in Germany. They had snow on the ground from early Nov til April. I used the crap out of while I was there. Now that I have a Subaru, I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to go buy a Subaru, they were cheaper than the Toy I bought, and there is more vehicle for the money. I get crap for the Soob from the guys at work, then when we have to do anything as a shop that is outside, everyone wants to look at my car. They can't believe that I have been driving it for almost 4 years. They have all changed cars at least twice since I got the wagon. And las January we had a major ice storm. I ws the only person in the neighborhood who was able to get out of my drive. This is the best car I have ever owned. Keep it! Keep it working and drive the crap out of it.
