My Wife And I Shared A Ride To Work Last Week Due To The Snow. I Didn't Realize What I Was Driving In. I Had To Take My Other Car Monday And Nearly Got Stuck At The End Of The Drive Where The Snowplows Pushed Back The Snow And The Super..er Subaru Walked Through. Sure it'll go fine on ice and in snow, even deep snow, but squirrly, always gotta be driving w-a-y ahead of the car, and don't even THINK of a quick avoidance swerve, it feels like it would just as soon lay down on it's side as not. Nothing beats an AWD Subaru on winter roads n-o-t-h-i-n-g! I sure wish Subaru would build a Jeep/Tracker like open body vehicle. I guess one of these days I'm just gonna have to build my own. By the time I got home I was grinning like a drunken fool I told the Mrs that I had a hard time getting the car to stop at home and it took me several tries. It'll be fun in the mountains in summer, but it's no snow commute car. If I lived in a big city I think I would own a Tracker tho', it'll really zip in and out of traffic, and you can park it anywhere ... Someday before we move back to Hawaii, I may do so, with a hatch or a Justy. Or bettr yet, something like a Wombat dropped on a Subaru pan/running gear (big rust problems where we will live on the Big Island). But NO NEW PROJECTS untill I get my airplane flying again. So, I sold my trusty Leg wagon, bought the toy jeep and banked a grand to boot. Sokay, two Legacy wagons in a two person family was boring, and it was hard to take the trash to the dump! I got the '95 from a board member in Chicago a couple of years ago. It was (and still is) a great car. Sold it to a friend of my wife, and she LOVES it! As for the Hawaii beach car. I'll have to build and title it on the mainland and import it to Hawaii after completion and relicensing. They just won't let you build cars in The Socialist People's Republic of Hawaii,3rd-world-country-masquearading-as-a-state. And here I thought it was rediculous that the DMV here told me I had to get a certified VIN inspection at the local law inforcement place when I swapped an engine from the parts car to the out of running car. It wasn't the packed, wet, mush we had on Saturday, but lighter and fluffier. I took one look at the driveway and though I didn't have a chance, but gave it a shot anyway. Wooohooo....the subie went through it like it wasn't even there! Even went through the snow plough pile like nothing. fnlyfnd Posted December 17, 2005 Share Posted December 17, 2005 O man unplowed lots are the best. There is a church that is never plowed (except sundays) and i hit it up almost everytime it snows. We got some freezing rain yesterday, which then turned into 3-4 inches over night. I didn't have a shovel or my cell phone on me so i didn't want to get to nutty. I got about 20ft in and then got stuck, I could hear all the ice crushing under the tires. I figured I would play it safe this time around since i was not prepared at all, and hungover. It was about 8inches deep, but the ice halfway thru made it a pain. I ended up reversing it and getting out of there. Last time we got a few inches (no ice) I spent prolly 10 minutes just driving the crap out of the wagon, it was so much fun, I had to stop cause there was too many pavement patches .
