January 22, 200818 yr Author Update: In November, I ran my wagon at a PCA autocross and the next day one of the stub axles popped out of the housing. I was running a 3.900 open diff in place of the 3.900 VLSD. As of today however, I am running a 3.700 clutch type from an EA82. Comparison of the two soon to come...
January 22, 200818 yr So are you running a non turbo dual range 3.9 trans and a 3.7 final drive? How does it drive?
January 22, 200818 yr Author So are you running a non turbo dual range 3.9 trans and a 3.7 final drive? How does it drive? Just fine! No front axles means it doesn't matter if both ratios don't match... I hope.
January 22, 200818 yr I'm coming into this thread late. I have to agree on the understeer. I never had issues with the front end plowing on my rallycross brat until I added the LSD to it. I'm considering adding a VLSD to my Impreza next year and I'm curious how the VLSD differs in terms of tendency to understeer as well as how it behaves at low speeds when it might be less effective than a true LSD.
January 22, 200818 yr Hmmm, I thought it had male stubs, guess I'll have to take a closer look. Gary yes, they are male stubs, just like the EA series rear diffs, but the VLSD stubs are solid, and use a C-clip for mounting, intead of the hollow EA stubs with the E10 bolt....
December 9, 200817 yr Author I need to find a replacement for one of those C-clips. I was just driving along minding my own business (about a year ago) when my car makes this terrible grinding noise. I thought that my 4WD transfer gear had finally gone out (remember I've been running RWD). Turned out that the differential stub shaft had worked its way out of the diff.
