January 23, 200620 yr is it possable to swap a steering wheel from an impreza into a GL wagon. i think the GL steering wheel looks silly. could i use the wheel from my 96 Impreza front clip? do i need an adapter or will it bolt on? i guess i will try it if i dont hear word one way or the other. -=Suberdave=-
January 23, 200620 yr I believe the splines are different, but i could be wrong. there are other steering wheels that you could snag, they are unfortunately all rather silly looking as you have said, but at least it would be different
January 23, 200620 yr not only are they weird and dorky looking, they arent very strong, you can bend them really easy if you push and pull on them. i am going to look into this, i have a spare legacy steering wheel that needs a home ~Josh~
January 23, 200620 yr I thought you could, as WJM had installed a MOMO adapter for a Impreza on his RX....
January 24, 200620 yr Reading the title post it seemed to me that you were gonna try to put the GL steering wheel into the impreza!
January 26, 200620 yr Which EA82 weel are we talking about here? There were different styles, some stonger than others, some more comforatle. Do you have a pic? Or a description of the style?
January 26, 200620 yr i tried my legacy wheel on my GL today, the splines are the SAME, but, the tapered part that "seats" the wheel onto the steering shaft is larger in diameter on the GL than the legacys, so you just drill SLIGHTLY the legacy wheel to match the GL "seating" so the washers and nuts from the GL wheel will tie the legacy wheel onto the GL shaft. remember to drill the BACKSIDE of the legacy wheel, not the splined part, had to say it, or else someone like me would ask. ~Josh~
January 26, 200620 yr I am using an Imprezza MOMO adapter on my loyale. I didn't bother to drill it out I just stuck it on and then forced the nut down. There is not much threads sticking out but it does have a lock washer so it should be fine.
January 29, 200620 yr Author well i did mine today. will take pics tomorrow. fit nicely. but had to do some modafication to get the turn signals to cancel and to get the horn to work. its a Nardi Torino wheel and shift knob from the 96 STI to match the power train. -=Suberdave=-
January 30, 200620 yr That looks very familiar to me... Oh yeah, my '85 Brat has the same one, with the Nardi shifter also.
