October 12, 200322 yr Now before I show you the picture of it, I gotta tell the story... I went with Hondasucks to go pick up my wagon a few months ago from the guy I traded my 83 hatchback to. The only way to get it home was to drive it and the guy said it drove just fine. It took a few minutes for the battery to get enough juice to fire and when it did, it had this funny knocking type sound but it wasn't a rod or a main or anything I've ever heard. I pulled out of the guys driveway and it was running just fine except for the knock. I was able to get it home with no problems and of course I decided to reseal the motor. Well today I pulled the heads off to put new head gaskets on and I was pulling out the pushrods and the exhaust pushrod on the #4 cylinder was bent, like it was f***ed up badly:banghead: So now I gotta go buy 8 new pushrods or see if someone has an extra one. Needless to say I'm:madder: :madder: :madder: :madder: right now:temper:

October 12, 200322 yr Yeah, Rob is right. Try to find out why its bent like that. Also, ive seen Andrew's shed... im suprised he doesnt have pushrods. Will a EA81 pushrod work? -Brian
October 12, 200322 yr Author well everything in the head is fine working order, and I'm thinking about tearing into the block to see what I can see. Sorry Junkie, we already looked at the EA81 pushrods. They're too long and they seem to be smaller around too. I'll keep some updates:banghead:
October 12, 200322 yr This can happen if the valves aren't adjusted properly, or if there is someother problem with the valvetrain, stuck or bent valve, if you have the head off, you should be able to check the head for problems.

October 12, 200322 yr Author well Adam I'm pretty sure my valves aren't bent so I'm guessing they went awhile without being adjusted. GLCraigGT, I'll try and get ahold of them on Tuesday and see if I can get a full set of pushrods cause if I'm gonna replace one, I might as well replace them all.
October 12, 200322 yr hey, I just happen to have a full set (somewhere around here) of pushrods for an ea71! free if you come get them- (and if we can find them all) they are on one of the parts engines in the shop....

October 13, 200322 yr Beginning to think you should have kept that hatch Russ.... But yeah, the EA81 rods are too long :-(
October 13, 200322 yr russ, if you're not busy this saturday and my hatch is fixed, I'll drive up there with you. Make a boneyard run on the way/way back. Jus pay $5 or $10 or however much you can for gas.
October 13, 200322 yr and oh yeah, got quoted a couple times, "someone revved it too high" so yeah, sounds like misadjusted valves that got the rod bent when the guy spanked the pedal.
