Anyone yanked their doors off of a wagon? I'm about to do it to see how I like it, That is the ONLY thing I miss about my Jeep. Anyone got pics of a doorless wagon?

no pics but I've run the xt6 doorless for a while.. was going to make tube doors for it for the summer, since I don't think it's legal to run without doors, but still not sure

Should be no problem with the law. Look at Jeeps. The only issue would be rear view mirror(s). That can be easily fixed with a Jeep or motorcycle mirror.

jeeps have a several inch lip for the door frame area.. whereas subarus do not

You could do what I did with an old VW bus. Take a set of doors and cut a 'U' out of them so you have an opening like an old Jeep, weld a lip around the cut-out, and bolt it in place during the summer. That way you still have the stifness, you have a sill and some sense of being secured ... oh and legally, you still have a door.

 

I've been looking all over for a set of ratty doors for my Barbie Jeep (Sidekick) to do the same again.

if you're worried about stuf fon the floors, you could just weld some plate onto your tube doors there... match it up flush w/ the floor... eh?

its a good way to shed weight , each door is about 50LBS.

200 Lbs for a wagon , remove the hatch theres another 40Lbs , remove the stock bumperws theres some more it makes a difference in some offroad siteeations:eek:

Yeah I actually ran without doors for a while, it was fun. Kinda scary though. Laws vary from state to state though, in Nevada, it is legal to not have doors on your car, but in Washington it is not. That was part of the reason why I had the tube doors made. I didn't want to be pulled over in Washington for not having doors. (I was heading to wcss7) I like the tube doors, I may have a plate welded in there to keep stuff in as well as mirrors (been lazy) and maybe a cup holder as well. In all, I say go for it!

no thanks it gets cold here in the middle of summer for bizare reasons.so i will ditch the rear tailgate (brat) and run a net.not to make it a racecar but so it doesnt pork up when I add bumpers, super swampers,etc.

I would have to challenge that. Look at all of the Jeep MBs,CJs, YJs, TJs, Toyota FJ40s, Suzuki Samurais, Geo/Chevy Trackers, Daihatsu Rockys, old Broncos, some Chevy Blazers and several more I'm sure I missed that run around daily with no doors.

It depends on where you live. In Nevada I CAN drive without doors, in Washington I CANNOT. So it varies from state to state. I have no idea about how Alabama is regarding driving without doors. If you have seen people around running without them I assume it is legal. But ya never know. You may wanna call your local DMV and see.

washington has a provision for no doors. "if the vehicle was originally equipped from the factory with removable doors". thats the provision y'all r talking about for jeeps. i used to deal with this when i wheeled toyotas. though, it all depends on the cops. if they want to pull you over or if they dont . anyway, you really dont get hassled much for it - unless youre in lynn'hood.

I LOVE that. And it's got doors too (sorta). Everyone should be happy. I got another idea to try with it though. I've got a spare set of doors and I'm thinking of skeletonizing them. Gut them and cut the skin of the outside in 2 panels, leaving the belt trim area and about a one inch border around the edges. Then filling the missing area with a sheet of expanded metal or something similar. I'll try one soon and post pics.

Mine came off in about 20 minutes. It came from the factory with bolts holding the doors on (not welded). Qualifies as removable, doesn't it? I'd have to attack that one in court. My 2003 Jeep Wrangler had nuts holding the doors on which had to be removed in order to remove the doors. If they ticketed a doorless Subie, they had damn well better be nailing every Jeep in the state as well. A good attorney could rip a ticket written on that law to shreds.

true, true. toyotas are that easy too. that would mean that almost every vehicle aside from GM's (cause they are welded on) are equipped with removable doors.
