Howdy-

So the guys detailing out my 78 DL soaked the rear parcel tray and more or less turned it from taught and beige to crumbly and black. Anyone got leads on how to repair these or get a new one?

Otherwise, the car is looking like it just rolled out of its shipping container. I'll post pics soon.

Help please...I'm crushed.

BT:rolleyes:

That is a rare piece! It's cardboard.

Most you find are sun rotted. All cars will interchange this, (DL, GF, Base, 2door, 4 door)

You have to find one in a yard or fab up one. You can recover in felt.

I'll keep my eye open for one.

Todd

Actually, what Todd said about fabbing is a good plan, to tell the truth.

On my '76 DL, I installed a 4-speaker stereo system, and of course back then there were no speakers or holes in the package shelf.

My father and I got a piece of plywood and cut it just a little smaller in all dimensions than the original package shelf, then carpeted it with that Kraco/Schucks generic carpeting (which was actually a pretty close match to the stock color!). Fit nice and snug and looked great.

Make sure if you do this to test fit the piece before you glue the carpet to the wood.

Or Masonite. The material used is really close to masonite. Can easily be dampened and formed overnight for bends and curves.

You'll probably try to save your existing panel, and I don't blame you,so let us know what method you chose.Be sure to make it nice so the bobble head dog has a nice place to lay down.:) Remember those?

Thanks, fellas-

I am gonna try and have our color/materials department spray it with a thick primer and then color match with a vinyl paint. Here's hoping that will work. I am just bummed because it had a really cool techno-texture in the cardboard that I won't be able to replicate. (I guess that makes me sound pretty anal, but those are the kinds of details that I love on these old cars..)

Have a good weekend, boys- I am off to Phoenix. I'll take the want list with me in case I go yarding.
