quick fix so my airbag light goes off?

Featured Replies

my g/f crashed her impreza a few months ago and now the car needs to be inspected....i put a new airbag in the steering wheel so it looks normal but the damn light is still on....is there a way i can shove a resistor in a plug somewhere?

any body know where? and how much resistance?

or if u have an inspection agency....will it pass with the light still on?

thanks

Reset the computer?

The computer's going to have a record of having deployed the airbag unless you reset the computer. And if your car is newer than 95/96, they're going to read the computer at the inspection station.

If you unplugged some of the yellow elc. conectors when you replaced the bag then you may have failed to push the lock forward on the plug when you reconnected it. When I replaced my heater core my airbag light stayed on and this was the reason why. After pushing it back to the lock position the light went off.

Quick and dirty, remove the lightbulb from the airbag light. The sensors in the airbag system are one use sensors. Once the system has deployed, its necassary to replace the offending sensor/s.

Airbag system is far more then just the bags.

PA inspection reads the OBDII computer. If the computer throws a flag that the inspector doesn't see, he's going to nail you for not having the bulb in. He'll also charge for the offending sensor.

That forward lock was the bugger for me until I finally broke down and pushed it in....very odd as I couldn't see any connection that suddenly was made by locking it.

I don't have an airbag anymore and use a 1/2watt 3.3ohm resistor to keep the light off.

Explore the replacement of the impact sensors too....could be that simple.

except for one MINOR detail. OBDII is just emissions, it is NOT saftey nor airbags, nor abs. Go look at a wiring diagram, they are not connected in any way aside from a speed input and power. In fact i have not seen anywhere that a malfucntioning airbag system is a gorunds for failure (if somone can show me please do) The only thing i do know is that seatbelts must be present.

sometimes, its so simple haha.....im def going to be pulling out her speedo tomorrow...her sensors def. blew up...i found a car at the junkyard that had the sensors and all the wiring etc. but I wasnt planning on trying to get her airbag to work again (which would prolly turn into me mounted a sensor too loose and her hitting a speed bump and having the damn thing go off in her face)

thanks for some common sense haha....BTW its a 93 so they cant tap into anything beside those little connectectors at the bottom of the dash...and im sure he wont

in maryland the airbag light can be on and the system non-functioning in order to pass safety inspection. but i think PA is much more annoying. one state has that stupid rule "anything that came on the car must be functioning"...that would seriously PMO.

called my mechanic to verify....the airbag light can be on but it doesn't matter....as long as the bag isn't hanging out of the steering wheel and obstructing the driving you are OK.

So there you have it from 2 PA inspection license holders. It doesn't matter. :headbang:

Interesting. I was almost positive that PA inspections covered that stuff. Must not be as stringent on that as they are on the damn emissions

thats good news....i was told both from different ppl...

i heard from one guy that whatever came stock must be working...even if its something stupid like a rear window wiper...and then from another guy saying...that it shouldnt matter if it has an airbag or not

normally we just go to a "lick and stick" but he's out of tags...and she's been illegal for the pass 9 days
