December 20, 200619 yr Author Find the metal upgrade if you can,not another plastic gear.Good luck. actually, the blown one IS metal. Right now, I'd be happy with anything, just to get it back on the road for snow season.

December 20, 200619 yr Author Theres a good write up in the subaru repair manual that will walk you through it. cool. I've got the bad one out (super easy) and now I "just" need a new one/decent condition one. The local yard has a tranny, but he won't part it out for this one small piece.
December 20, 200619 yr I just saw one in the local PAP today. I'm going back so I'll see if I can grab it.

December 20, 200619 yr The gear is removable and available at your local (or not so local) Dealer for between US$30 and $75. If you get one used from one of us (I destroyed all of my spares on a bad tranny) you might consider just having the gear shipped.

I didn't even check cuz I figured it was obsolete. Anyone know a part number? Also, is just the gear available, not the whole mechanism...so all I gotta do is pop out the roll pin and replace the gear?

December 21, 200619 yr I would try a used one first, as the tranny may be the problem. If the tranny has a bad drive gear it will eat gov. gears like candy. GD
