January 28, 200719 yr well went out and did some light wheeling today, out in the laguna mountains area. shaking down the bugs out of the car. didn't air down at first, cause there was a ford expedition following me on the easy trail that follows the washes i was in. oops, bound and broke a stubby shaft! (anyone have a few they want to sell?) i only have like 2 more spares... so a little over half the day i was running on one rear shaft and a front lsd. which sucks going up climbs... night day differance in traction... so here's some pics! hope you enjoy! and whoever says subaru's can't play... :-p
January 28, 200719 yr Awesome pics man! The roo is looking good. And those were some pretty good sized rocks.
January 28, 200719 yr Author and those were the 4.0+ rated washes we were going through. out of a 5.0 rating scale. scraped the sub frame and love tapped some rocks here and there. need to build the tcase skid...
January 28, 200719 yr Nice car. Looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to see more from this beast. bound and broke a stubby shaft! (anyone have a few they want to sell?) i only have like 2 more spares... so a little over half the day i was running on one rear shaft and a front lsd. Have you thought about putting in a longnose R180 or an R200? Only problem is driveshafts. Not sure what splines they are on the nissans.
January 28, 200719 yr Great pics! I had no idea it was lifted that much now:eek: You better be careful driving that all the way up here. Its far from street legal now:-\
January 28, 200719 yr Author maybe a wee bit... not much bigger than yours and a little shorter than ken's brat. i'll make some drop bumpers for it... it's a suspension lift in my eyes... so it's not illegal (except bumper height)... subframe, higher gvw ....... a lot of the front pics are up hill and the suspension's pulling out. and or flexed on a rock. and remember, i'm only 5' 6"... a few of those shots are from down hill, making it look bigger......
January 28, 200719 yr Author maybe they'll mistake it for something like a cherokee and then my bumpers will be close to legal...
January 28, 200719 yr that looks fun mate.safe journeys to the NW!as long as you don't go through cali you should be alright.......
January 28, 200719 yr why does one tire look like the tierod is broken because of the extreme angle its at?
January 28, 200719 yr Author why does one tire look like the tierod is broken because of the extreme angle its at? which picture? not broken... well i might have a lead on some yota axles. or at least a rear... with 4.10's to match the front! might just cure my stubbies forever...
January 28, 200719 yr Looks like good fun buddy. Now get up here and add some mud to that and have some real fun. Great pics!I had no idea it was lifted that much now:eek: lol Remember, Jared's only as (ahem) *tall* as you are.
January 28, 200719 yr Author i see a midjet in the pic!:clap::cool: pumpkin smasher trail, next month i should be headed here with the rockwhores from quartsite... especially if i get a toy axle all welded with thinned chubby springs. 4.5+ rated trail...
January 28, 200719 yr 5ft 6"??? I started to say "No f'n way, your shorter than that" Then I remembered your just a youngin and still growin:grin: Yeah, I know, look who's talking:-p
January 28, 200719 yr Do you have hi-res copies of those pics? The last one and the one two up from it would make great desktop pics. Maybe email 'em to me if you can? I've got another use for them too. miked <at> subarubrat <dot> com
January 29, 200719 yr oops, bound and broke a stubby shaft! jeez you just put a new one in. oh well, its all in good fun thats what matters, that and the fact you got it going again. looking good, hope when you get up here i can make it up north and go wheelin with all you guys.
January 29, 200719 yr Author the marine corp measures me as 5'6"... for the last 4 and a 1/2 years... yeah i did just replace the left side... and blew the right... should of aired down, it might of still broke, but it broke on shock load while twisting and bouncing on a rock. if i would of been at 12 to 15 psi (at least, these bfg's flex really well!) instead of 30... i probably would have had plenty of traction and just crawled over. instead of that lovely light and slow bouncing effect i got... it's even more important with the lack of flex i have with the independent suspension to air down on the rocks. but i wasn't even planing on doing those washes... since my friend was following in in his stock expedition... i just passed a few of the crossings... and finally took the turn into the washes... i couldn't resist the feeling to really play!
January 29, 200719 yr Author How much ground clearance does lil roo have? i'll try to remember to measure tomorrow. it's around 12 to 13 at the diffs and 14 at the tcase... but it's been years since i've measured. the rear diff is the lowest point. yeah and here you can wheel in any navigatable wash... which means you can pretty much wheel all over... i'll miss that when i leave.
January 29, 200719 yr Author Are you running EA81 in that thing? yes i'm running an (ea81) built ccr 1.8L. that breaths through a 32/36 weber. then to a ea82 5 speed d/r to a datsun 720 tcase to the 4.11:1 ea71 brat diffs front and rear...
January 29, 200719 yr Author How much ground clearance does lil roo have? 13" front diff 12" tcase 12" rear diff.
January 29, 200719 yr That thing is an absolute animal. When your Yota becomes the wheelin' rig, will you sell it? I'll be just over the pass when you decide to...
January 29, 200719 yr Author not sure if i'll sell it... it's my first car and there's a lot of memories... it'll probably get the diffs opened back up and used as a DD.
January 30, 200719 yr not sure if i'll sell it... it's my first car and there's a lot of memories... it'll probably get the diffs opened back up and used as a DD. Dang...well, it will be a sweet daily driver.
