February 2, 200719 yr ok Ive read all the jokes about how this engine is helplessly flawed with siamesed ports and all , but I would like to know what can be done to get more, even if its a little, lowend torque out of the EA82 engine, I have a 87 SPFI EA82 which I offroad and without low gears it needs some more lowend grunt, also I am aware that a EJ is more superior so lets not go there Thank You SJR
February 2, 200719 yr not sure how much of this can carry over to the SPFI EA82 since I'm a carb guy, but this is what I have on my Brat w/ea81 and weber... torque grind Delta CAM recurved disty from RooBuilders (out of business now) Excel Super Coil (big squareblock kind) MSD6A Ignition (multi-spark) Exhaust properly sized for torque and not HP

February 2, 200719 yr FI is better overall for offroad. Try a heavier flywheel. This won't give you more torque, but will give the engine more inertia, so it will crawl a bit better and stall less.
February 2, 200719 yr Cams, and MegaSquirt will get you what you need. MegaSquirt would also allow you to fit a larger throttle body for more low-end. As a side benefit, with MS, you could drop in an EJ22 (or a JDM DOHC EJ20) later on with minimal wiring effort. GD
February 2, 200719 yr Exhust would make a huge difference here. Get rid or the cat and stock muff. stick with stock exhust cross over and run like 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 pipe with a cherry bomb or somthing w low restriction.
