February 4, 200719 yr I am surprised that with all the talented fabricaters on the board that I have never seen a T-top conversion on a wagon. Can it be done?
February 4, 200719 yr someone on the board fabed T-tops onto his hatch so yes anything is possible if you want it bad enough. you would need the entire roof section from a brat to do it.
February 4, 200719 yr Chef_Tim did it on his hatchback, the way he described it to us he couldnt find a body man that would undertake the task. If you can get him to post a picture of it,notice that he's got a cheese grater on the roof of it.
February 4, 200719 yr IIRC, the problem is the roof isn't the same dimensions. width, and the general shape. tim did it, but it was a total Pain. these are from his photo album here on the board: and the cheese grater pic:
February 4, 200719 yr I did end up having a guy from Bellarus do the install. I did all the finish work on it. The main problem is the Brat roof line is about 25mm higher then the Hatch. The only problem after the fact is some slight leaks, but it's an off roader so I'm not worried about that. I don't think I'll ever live down the "cheese grater/rasp" . Later, Tim
February 4, 200719 yr I don't thin it will work on a wagon, as the tops of the windows are signicantly smaller than those of the Brats and hatches. You could do it, but I think the B-pillar would bring up major issues though. I would likely cut the b-pillar from the donor sunroof Brat or hatch, remove the wagon b-pillar so you could run hatch/brat doors then add in the new b-pillar and get rid of the rear doors, leaving you with the cooles 2 door wagon ev4r!
February 5, 200719 yr I don't think I'll ever live down the "cheese grater/rasp" . Later, Tim to ME, that says two things... A. You found your tool selection to be somewhat lacking and B. You were inventive enough to think to grab the cheese grater. I say thats nothing to live down, but something to be proud of. Funny, yes... but smart funny.
February 5, 200719 yr ^^^You forgot point "C", the most importaint and correct answer....... To cheap to buy the real tool when cheese graters are $.50 at the Goodwill
February 10, 200719 yr If your still wanting to do this swap, here's you a roof: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-subaru-brat-top-with-sun-roofs_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ42611QQhashZitem130078495181QQihZ003QQitemZ130078495181QQrdZ1
February 10, 200719 yr It's because *nice* wagons came with factory sun-roofs. So it's easier, and cheaper to just find a wagon with a sun-roof. The t-tops are ok, but I find my sun roof on my wagon to be just as useful..... maybe not as cool looking, but as I also own a Brat with T's..... if I want to look cool with the T's up I'll drive that instead GD
February 11, 200719 yr Rick, I can agree. T-tops look very sweet up, Lock s foils in attack position.
