March 7, 200719 yr Here is a general shot so you get an idea where it is: A closer up shot, sorry about the blur... There should be a second hose that comes off the side of the "valve" that heads back across the engine towards the passenger side. The nipple that it should go to is broken off and looks like it is closed off. I can post better pictures in the morning if needed. Second question is there a preferred brand of parts that work best with the Brat as far as tune-up goes? I am looking to do plugs, wires, cap and rotor to start. Just head to Napa Auto Parts or ??? Thanks in advance for the help, I'm sure I will have lots of other questions soon!
March 7, 200719 yr Im not sure, others will deffinatly know. alot of good help here on this board, especially GENERAL DISORDER In Portland. he is sharp!!!and many others not metioned. I miss my ea81s
March 7, 200719 yr That looks just like one of the solenoids on my Loyale, either the EVAP purge solenoid or the EGR solenoid. I'm not sure if EA81's had EGR's but they probably had EVAP systems to keep fuel vapor in the tank and lines in the car instead of venting them to the atmosphere, so that would be my guess. In either case it shoulnd't affect the car too much. Always nice to keep things working though. An EA81 guru will probably know exactly what its for.
March 7, 200719 yr Author Car is running ok, but does need a tuneup and some seafoam or something similar. Took a peek inside the cap, things are pitted and corroded. Wires look old and same with the plugs. MPG for my first tank was 27.63mpg, but I have a check engine light that I am looking into.
March 8, 200719 yr Looks like the infamous purge solanoid. Most likely for the emissions stuff. That´s it!
March 9, 200719 yr It is definitely a vacuum solenoid. I am not familiar with the other Subaru engine configs, just my SPFI EA82, but your engine appears to gave an EGR valve. The gold disc right next to the spare tire looks identical to, and is in the same location as, the vacuum actuator for the EGR valve on my SPFI. My best guess then is that it is the EGR Solenoid.
