Hey all:

 

I just finished the winch bumper! What do you think? Maybe needs some lights, and something to protect the blinkers. Time for some real tires and maybe a swing away tire carrier for the back.

I'd definately work on something for the turn signals though, and you can never have too many lights... Unless you are in VA and then you can be ticketed for having more forward facing lights that available from the factory...

Just checked out some of your rock crawling pictures; that is intense.

I dont have any pics of the build, but if you're interested in how it was done send me a pm and I'll describe the process in more detail. I added a light bar to the bumper, but still no lights, maybe next pay check. I still need to protect the blinkers too.

I just put on the muffler you gave me. What a difference. Thanks again for the parts that came with the LSD. I would have bought those tires too, but I want to go with the 15" rims.

 

I'd also take any tire recommendations from anyone! I'm thinking 215/75/15 but I haven't decided on brand or tread.

Did you mount them to the stock bumper tabs?

 

You might want to consider reinforcing the mounting tabs for the bumper.

 

When I took my bumper off, I noticed that there were made out of stamped sheet metal.

I used 3x3 steel angle bracket for my mounting tabs. It is 3/16" thick and I drilled holes to bolt up to the stock bumper mounting points. This will probably bend the brat before the bumper bends. I'm thinking of adding a steel skid plate that will bolt to the bumper and then bolt where the stock skid plate bolts. This should offer a little more rigidity. So far the thing is rock solid, but I'm just having fun with it.

Did you get the 3" or the 4" Kit? Your going to have trouble finding a real agressive tire in the 15" rim that will fit propperly. With the 3" you are safe running 27" tires, 4" you can squeeze 29" tires. Thats if you dont want to butcher your fenders.

 

The tires I have (had) are 27" and only offered in R14. R15 starts at like 30" or higher i believe.

 

There are some super swampers that are 28" but i dont think they are for 15" rims. The off-road forum is the place to research all that.

I got the 4/3 SJRlift. I used the extra steering shaft you gave me and lengthened it with steel tubing. I was thinking of going with bfg mud terrains in the 215/75/15, but this is my daily driver, so I might just get all terrains. The mud tires would look so much better. We'll see.

very nice! would look even better on my '84 wagon!

recessing those turn signals into the bumper would give it a much more cleaner/finished look, IMO. but still props to ya!!!
