EA82 belts tensioners

Featured Replies

So my coupe is making a very loud noise from the tensioners. I'm kinda amazed they're still together:lol:

Anyways, I'm seeing where people tend to get replacement tensioners and what they usually pay. I'm also needing an idler as well (might as well replace it while I'm at it) but the belts are new, maybe 1500 miles total on them. I've found the tensioners on www.thepartsbin.com for $27.95 for the left and $19.95 for the right. Idler by istelf is $29.95. They have a complete timing belt kit for just under $160. Thats like $90 for timing belts!?!?!

I looked on the bay of Evil and came up with some but not enough to choose between...

Thanks Mike, I just bought a set so hopefully my old tensioners will last until I get these:lol:

Ouch! I payed too much for the ones I bought (from Advance or AutoZone) a while back!

But next time (IF there is one) I plan to put new bearings into the old set since I kept them...

Hey if you need part's in the future try http://www.Rockauto.com They'v got ton's of Sh#@ for the EA82 and all Subaru's.....

Should i change the tensioners and ideler when i do the oil pump and T belt's??? Is the EA82 oil pump and timing belt's hard to replace??? See this is my first car and my dad never worked on a Roo before So....

Anyhoohope you tensioners last untill you get'em it!

First off, the swear filter is in place for a reason. You get more respect if you don't fake swear.

Second, it would be advisable to change the tensioners at the same time as the timing belts. Would also be advisable to do the water pump at the same time. The oil pump however, they last for the length of the motor. All's you'd need to do is replace the seals on it, which I would recommend to do at the same time as your timing belts.

I tend to buy most of my Subaru needed parts from either the dealership or from www.thepartsbin.com. I'm just on a tight budget right now and since I need my car to get around (my mountain bike needs a few bucks put into it), I can't afford to blow a tensioner. I got rid of everything when I moved:rolleyes:

Oh! There's a swear filter?? Ok i guess i'll be cool! Anyhoo i have all the part's except the tensioners and idler! I'm not going to worry about the water pump right now, But i know i've heard all about it too! And since i have the oil pump i mite as well change it! And the micky mouse is leaking so...... Anywayz Yeah the Subaru dealer is a good place to go, But i like Rockauto.com too, because i needed a driver's side light assembly and the dealer wanted like $250 and Rockauto had it for $147 so it was a great deal!

Oh! Since i'm going to buy the tensioners from Rockauto what brand do you recamend??? Is Beak/arnly good?? Or should i get SUBARU OEM? Because SUBARU OEM is $45 bucks and Beck/arnly is like $30 and i need both so that's $60 and then the ideler is $34 So that's $94 big ones plus shipping!!
