Documented: The 1970 FF-1 Project car...

Idealy - have a glass hood laid up and cut out for the stacks , make a scoop. Sounds like a lot and its not cheap but possibly worth investigating given the need for work in many shops these days. I'm thinking around $300 - 400 gets you the hood ready for you to do the rest and paint. That's a hood blank , you'd apply hinges ,etc.

Just a thought. You're going to be sporting a semi hotted up rig (compared to stock) , a little extra mustard on it would look pretty cool.

Good luck and of course we're all behind you on this. :headbang:

  • SEAT PHOTOS!   Again, seats are from a 1982 Mazda GLC. They were from the original owner, who'd removed them from his car when new to install Sparco seats. Sat in his basement for 30 years waiting

Luckily there is a shorter air filter, which means I can still use the box and only have to spend like $10 on a new filter.

The velocity stacks though, either ditch them entirely or find some super short ones...

Aww man , I was hoping on seeing stuff popping out of the hood , car snorting like a bull , that sort of thing. :)

A few parts are actually installed permanently, like the water pump, intake manifold, alternator brackets, etc. Don't have the distributor on 100% yet but I wanted to check the plug wires and how they lay out among other things.

Oh and ignore the squished oil filter, thats just for break-in.

Man Kost that made me make a mess outta myself. That is some XXX Subie porn right there man   . Cannot wait to see the final product.

Looks awesome man! Keep at it! I absolutely understand the frustrations with the little problems. Sometimes you have to just leave it, and do something else. That's where I'm at with my 4runner project now.....but I'm not giving up. It'll get done sooner or later.

Does anyone have the clip for the throttle cable from any of the 70's Subaru's?

The brand new throttle cable I have which fits perfect doesn't have the clip, and the original throttle cable was different with this car. Nobody seems to have the correct sized clip!

Its kind of like a brake line clip, but smaller...

oddly enough, i do have 2

they are yours if yu pm me an address

Woot! PM sent

Quarter Inch (1/4") for where the clip clips on. I don't know the size of the clip in general though, never even saw one.

  • Author
well dude. it took me three freekin hours, but i found the clip, its on its way

Awesome!

I've got the clutch all connected now, and that clip was the only thing holding me back from connecting the throttle to the carb.

I think I'm getting close to time to start wiring everything.

OMGURRRD that suby is maken me HURRRP DUURRR hard cores very good job sir.

Cheers R.

On the electronic distributors, which color wire is the positive and which the negative? I have a yellow wire and a black wire with a white stripe.

  • Author

Ah good, thanks. I don't have much wiring experience, so I'm trying not to make any mistakes...

Anyway, couple photos from today. I've got the vacuum lines and such all sorted and a couple other things done.

Also got the air filter to fit now... JUST BARELY!

Man that is tight. Hope you got good motor mounts in there. Lol

Is that bar across the fenders a test fit peice?

Thats the base for the final piece. I'll have to attach a radiator to it somehow and then of course paint it when its done.

what happen to the original rad support panel

cheers Thierry

  • Author

The original support was designed for the dual radiator system, not to mention it had the hood latch. It was also a rusted mangled piece. Its gone.

I'm going to run a single large radiator with a fan on the right side.

If you are going the single radiator route you going to make a cowl from your blower fan to the radiator so you still have heating on the cooler days

Cheers Thierry

  • Author

Ya, I checked the cowl vent thingie fitment and it doesn't fit anyway because the motor got moved forward.

I also need to figure out how to attach it to the bottom and if a radiator can come with the overflow tank built in.
