October 9, 200718 yr Well i when to Subaru are said i needed all the bolts/nuts for the T-belt cover on my EA82.. And he looked them up on there FSM and he put an order in. But he said he'll call my if he can't get them. I did that Saturday and still no word! I hope i can get them!! So what i'm asking is if anyone has all the bolts/nuts for the EA82 T-belt covers. And if there in good shape. Not rusty. Just incase he calls and says there not able to get them anymore. Thanks all, Tom:headbang:
October 10, 200718 yr You guys got Ace Hardware over there Tom?? They usually have a great selection of metric stuff. Might save some time and money there too. Later, Tim
October 10, 200718 yr Author Yeah theres an Ace right downtown! But the only thing is some bolts are diffrent langths. That's what the guy are Subaru said... And as for money it's only $16.34, I know it would be $16 bucks i wouldnt need to spend. But i don't know all the sizes/langths of the bolts.. I know the heads are 10mm IIRC....
October 10, 200718 yr As long as you have bolts to hold the rear covers to the engine, I would just use zip ties to hole the front covers on. Works great, and if you ever need to touch the timing belts again, no playing with corroded bolts with metal inserts into plastic. Anyways, let me look in my pile in the back yard. I may actually have a bunch of these bolts laying around.
October 10, 200718 yr Author Yeah i guess the bolts for the rear covers are in good enuff shape. Dunno for sure can't see them? Zip ties!? It's not a bad idea. Well will see how it go's and if theres no way to get the bolts then i'll do the zip tie thing i guess..... Thanks' man.
October 10, 200718 yr Author Yeah i guess zip ties are the way to go. I mean it's not a really important part on the car. it's just a dust/debris cover....... Well if i get the bolts i'll use them and then nexted time if there really bad then i'll use zip ties.. Thank's all:burnout:
October 10, 200718 yr Author Yeah but what about road debris and water/salt! If salt gets in there it will be a *************** getting the bolts for the pullys and tensioners loose And if i diside to go trail riding/off-roading it would benice to have them on.... I've been talking to Miles and he said the same thing but dident recamend it... But it would be easyer to check the belts...... Is that even a word? easyer??
October 10, 200718 yr Easier is a word. And the debate for covers / no covers has been gone over numerous times. If you want to know the advantages / disadvantages of either option, there's quite a few threads detailing them. Zip ties will hold the front covers together plenty good.
October 10, 200718 yr Author Yeah i think i ran across a thread about that once... And thank's for the correction on Easier:lol:
October 11, 200718 yr Author yeah but doesnt any crap fly in there? And you paid $500 for your T-wag!@ That's what i paid for mine $570!!
October 11, 200718 yr Author Good news! A tec from the Subaru parts depo just called and my bolts are in! So i'll pic'em up today or tomorrow.. Thanks for the ideas on the zip ties and such....... And thanx to Mike for offering to give my the bolts if they couldent get them.........
October 12, 200718 yr i run with out covers but i dont drive that car off road been almost a year and no problems. easy to change belts now. the only reason i left them off was broken bolts in the covers.
October 12, 200718 yr never had a problem getting anything in my timing belts, and I've been coverless for over a year now. the belts themselves are going to be due for a replacement sooner than I want to believe, though..
October 12, 200718 yr Author That i easier to check your belts..... Will see if i can get the old bolts out. I soooo hope i don't break any..... Good luck changeing your belts Daeron.....
October 14, 200718 yr You guys ever heard of antiseize? If you are successful removing the bolts, put 'em back with a dab of antiseize and they shouldn't give any more problems. 5 bucks or less at the parts store and you have enough for hundreds of bolts.
October 14, 200718 yr Author Hey thank's i'll see about that!! I was thinking of useing Packing grease!!! Would that work too??
October 23, 200718 yr The left cover actualy cracked and broke when i did my t belts, so i glued it back together. i don't like the idea of running without covers, because my wagon sees alot of dirt, and crud.
October 23, 200718 yr Author Huh, The left cover broke! So the glue is holding?? As for mine, I don't think the'll crack in half because they look prett new and not fragile.... Will see! Yeah i don't really like the idea of not covers either, Tom
