December 15, 200322 yr Iv'e never seen anything quite like it (on my new DL) the speed-O reacts VERY slowly to speed changes. It's not bouncing or anything, just moves real slow. Any one ever seen this before?
December 15, 200322 yr A friend had a speedo that didn't work in the cld. The cable shrank and spun until it warmed up. Same with my tach. But I doubt it gets cold enough in OR for that to be the problem.

December 15, 200322 yr sounds like something gooey on the bushing for the needle, as inside the speedo there is a device which is like a spinning magnet type thing, with a preset friction or spring thing tuned on the needle end that regulates how much it is dragged by the magnetism. oil or goo could make the needle slow to react, but still able to stay accurate. However oil or goo in the magnet mechanism can make your speedo way to fast because it will cause drag between the magnets and the metal needle pickup thingy, so I don't know how you got goo at the needle but not anywhere else. Actually I have no idea if that is how suby speedos work, but that's how most speedos work.
December 15, 200322 yr i've had 2 subie's with teh same issue.. right about 65mph it would stick until you slowed down or sped up at least 10mph then it would move. they only did it when it was cold.. so i figured some sorta goo somewhere
December 15, 200322 yr for the tach problem... i'd check for a good connection and resistance in all your wires/ corrosion on terminals... cause that's the only thing that i can think of for eronious indication on electric system. other than a bad tach.
December 15, 200322 yr My RX did that originally too (and still does when it's very, very cold out). I cleaned the side that went into the speedo cluster and it helped. May also want to check for hard bends in the cable. If it's being bound up by anything that will cause it move slowly.

I've started to learn where the tach points in 5th gear for each speed just so I know how fast I'm actually going...I can drop 5mph and hold it then it's probably a good minute before the speedo finally drops that 5mph...:brolleye: I have learned that sometimes slapping the dash above the speedo helps...ROFL
December 15, 200322 yr My old 85 wagon and my 92 wagon both have done the same thing. 65-75mph sticky, both accelerating and decelerating. Maybe just a design quirk.
December 15, 200322 yr Author Well, it seems to be reading the right speed, and it's not stiking @ any speed. It's just a little slow to cach up when accselerating aor de-selerating. I think I might see what all it would take to put in the full gauge cluster from my '85GL w/tac. in it:brow: I have a hard time drivin' a stick with-out a tac any way.
