March 2, 200917 yr After changing a bad rotor (will be changing the other in the next few days) I get a weird vibration over 55mph. The car shakes every 2 seconds or so so its much slower than the rotation of the wheels. What could it be?

March 2, 200917 yr Author Checked both, castle nut is snug as a bug and hasnt moved at all. The lug nuts are also tight :-\

March 2, 200917 yr how are your boots on your CV joints? If they are split like mine your joints are dry & heat up at that speed - try shooting a lot of grease into all 4 joints (2 inner & 2 outer) and see if that helps - if it does then you should think about having them rebuilt (approx $100 per axle) if you are over 80,000 mi.
March 3, 200917 yr Author Both axles are brand new, no clicking at all. Not sure about the brakes, they did seem to drag for the first few minutes and then it stopped and all was good. Could I still have some dragging at speed and not notice it? Wouldn't that heat up my rotors and makem smoke and what not?
March 3, 200917 yr Is the rotor you put on out of balance and causing a harmonic vibration? Is the rotor all the way on the hub? Not crooked because of rust etc. ?
March 3, 200917 yr Checjk your universal joints and carrier bearing. If its a universal joint you will notice that it will drop from 55 to 50 to 45 over time. nipper
March 3, 200917 yr Try installing the wheel in each of the other 3 possible positions.Wheel might have originally been balanced while on the car.

March 3, 200917 yr i have had a u joint go out in the driveshaft to the rear diff... not fun... it vibrated somewhat like what you said.

March 3, 200917 yr Just because rotors are new, doesn't mean they are ok. I have run across many new ones that were not straight. If you didn't have this problem before changing this rotor, doesn't it make sense that it has something to do with the work that was done? One thing that I have also seen a lot of is rotors that dont sit flat on the hub due to rust build up , even though they are tight they are not flat on the hub.
March 4, 200917 yr Author Hub had no rust on it just a little faded. The vibration around 65mph comes in pulses and it begins again with the end of the last pulse. Meaning there is no time gap. What I dont understand is why it is slower than the rotation of the tire :-\
March 4, 200917 yr Check your ball-joints and inner/outter tie-rod ends for any play in them. New tires can cause worn parts there to show up as a vibration like you are describing.
